What does everyone else use (if anything) for antivirus, firewall, etc.?
For the last couple years I used McAfee but once it expired I looked around to see what the top-rated package was. I went with ZoneAlarm, which seems pretty thorough and powerful but it really. Slows. Down. My. System. And I have a fast system, too!
I once tried Norton but I remember it being a gay, horrible mess. |

Norton is garbage. All I ever hear is people complaining about the slowdown.
I have the corporate version of Symantec Anti-Virus (seems much better than the personal version), and it's ok, I guess.
I have a router, so I don't bother with a software firewall. _________________ @}-,-'- *~*~* Member of the FTU Elegant Tea Party Society *~*~* -'-,-{@ |

I don't believe in any of that shit.
Ever since I thought I had some horrible virus slowing down my system or whatever and it turned out to be Norton, I exploded all traces of it in a rage and vowed to never use security software again. |

As long as you don't use IE or Outlook, and are even slightly cautious about what files you run, you're basically ok.
And if you don't run as administrator, that's a bonus.
I had my virus scanner disabled for several months without noticing it, and I didn't get any viruses in that time. _________________ @}-,-'- *~*~* Member of the FTU Elegant Tea Party Society *~*~* -'-,-{@ |

| Yeah, seriously. It's been a couple years now, and I've probably had LESS problems since I uninstalled it, which is an amusing coincidence. |

I have Zonealarm as a firewall but I never use antivirus software. Usually you have to be a moron to get a virus anyway. _________________

AVG is pretty good for free antivirus software.
My school gives us free Norton and forces us to use it or else no internet on campus. Also, it forces us to have Window's Firewall on which is also gay since I only use wireless routers to go online. |
