This movie stops being entertaining as soon as the title screen pops up.
Genius returns in bits throughout the movie, but they'd be better served as youtube clips.
The one-liners aren't clever or funny, Monica Bellucci is hot but otherwise a non-entity, and Paul Giamatti is unbearable as always. The carrot gimmick gets old fast. And above all else, baby-centric movies have an inherent terribleness about them that can't be ignored.
The only reason I don't regret having seen this in theaters is because of the umbilical cord explosion. |

If the fact that the plot is worthless and shouldn't exist bothers you, then you're not watching this movie for the right reasons. |

Of course it's worthless. So why bother putting any of it in at all? Either you have a ridiculous, retarded, non-stop action movie, or you have a movie that is actually good but also contains awesome action. I have no time for the gray areas!
My complaint here is that there is NOT ENOUGH action. There are MOMENTS, yes, but everything in between these occasional scenes is ESPECIALLY annoying - not just because it isn't "good."
The first 10 minutes or whatever of the movie set a standard that the rest of the movie can't keep up with. It's an incredibly awesome 10 minutes, of course, but my point is that there were so many other opportunities for similarly awesome ACTION that are wasted on retarded filler and Paul Giamatti insisting on things like "having lines" and "not dying instantly." I don't care if the story is dumb, but Shoot em Up pretends like people should care about it. So what if your baby was stillborn, you worthless cunt? What a stupid scene.
All I'm saying is that this movie should not be touted as flawless entertainment, or near-perfect entertainment, or even 'nowhere near perfect but still highly enjoyable' entertainment. I was pretty bored by the end of the movie. |

Gosh. I enjoyed the movie a great deal. I thought it was very entertaining and I didn't think the movie demanded anything else out of the viewer. |

PAUL GIAMATTI IS SO FUCKING TERRIBLE.
WHY DON'T ANY OF YOU UNDERSTAND THIS.
His presence automatically takes it down AT LEAST a full star. |
