That article brings up an interesting observation about article presentation on the Internet.
I've found that, while splitting articles into multiple pages is nice on a scrolling level, I find it psychologically difficult to deal with the basic uncertainty of not knowing how long the article actually is.
Once I flip through 3 pages and it's still going, I feel a lot more inclined to say "tl;dr" and stop, even if the article begins interestingly (like that one did).
I just don't like NOT KNOWING WHEN IT WILL END.
I also don't like being unable to easily skim the whole thing, which I like to do with pretty much everything I read before I start reading it. |
