They're a Netherese enclave that went to the plane of shadow shortly before Karsus' Folly. The Princes of Shade are about a dozen epic level characters, with most of them being Wizards. They actually have more magic power than the Twisted Rune. And more epic power than Thay.

They're also called Shadovar.

GOSH. The Twisted Rune are insanely powerful.

If you take 10 of the most powerful characters from various groups and organizations, the Twisted Rune are probably 4th or 5th in power.

The Blood War is pretty great. I want them to make some kind of adventure where the Illithids start taking everything over and the other sentient beings have to combine and stop them.

The neat thing about Dragonlance is that you actually have an opportunity to fight a flight of dragons or something of the like. Whereas that doesn't really happen in other settings, since dragons are much more solitary.

Only because intelligence is a better ability than wisdom, and clerics can be cut off from their spells by their deity.

Against another deity, though, Miracle would probably be the only useful low level spell. Excluding contingencies, of course. Hmmm... Do clerics even get contingency?
