Persona 4: THE ANIMATION just ended. It was quality entertainment from episode one through twenty-four though I'm mighty peeved that the TRUE ENDING is being given the DLC treatment (Bundled as an OVA with the Blue-ray release of the final episode.). If there's anything you should know about me it's that I consistently pop boners over dark and demonic imagery. I wouldn't classify myself as goth or anything but if there's a t-shirt with the Grim Reaper flying around on a dragon made of rotting corpses there's a good chance it's in my weekly rotation. And my heart FUCKING SINGS A MAD CHORUS OF REVERENCE when that sort of aesthetic is combined with insanely detailed Japanimation. Berserk-chan... That is Black Rock Shooter, more or less, or at least that's how it started out when Black Rock Shooter was just some disturbing alternate version of that holographic anime idol Japan adores. So I went into this as a fan of the art (Having bought two PVCs about two years ago based off pieces from the artbook. I didn't even know what it was, it just looked like something cool to buy!) and I came out of it as a fan...of friendship.

Just kidding! This is just more of that insipid best friends forever melodramatic drivel Japan seems to churn out every year like clockwork. It takes the daring approach of casting the original artbook characters as high school students (Sugoi!) and having them overcome the most asinine emotional quandaries one can imagine. Like, uh, hey, why won't that artsy girl become my best friend? I don't know. Did you ever think maybe she accidentally crippled her childhood friend and is now trapped in an impenetrable prison of guilt that won't allow her to defy the wishes of said friend, chief among them being never to spend time with anyone else? Well, admittedly that is somewhat unique. Spoilers, that's totally what happened. And those asinine emotional quandaries somehow manifest themselves on an parallel plane of existence where alternate versions of all those whiny twats constantly try to murder each other in an apocalyptic wasteland. And this only applies to women for some reason. They didn't explain that part. Right-o. It's worth watching just for those battle sequences because the animation is superb. Plus it's only eight episodes! Just don't confuse it with the OVA they released a while back. That was not good.

PROS:

Made me laugh a lot. Mostly at the parts that were supposed to be emotionally devastating.

No tsunderes in sight.
They redesigned Dead Master. Why does she have a wedding veil? And glasses!? WHY ARE THOSE RIBBONS ALL OVER THE PLACE?!?! fuckkkkkk

I've been watching a dumb harem anime called Demon King Daimao. It's about a guy who goes to a vaguely magical high school a la Hogwarts to become a high priest, but a 100% accurate future occupation test reveals that he's destined to become a demon king instead. This is one of those high schools where 95% of the student population is sexy females, and the lead character quickly finds himself in a series of awkward situations involving panties. The show is basically an amalgamation of every anime cliche ever. He even has an android assistant with a strategically placed off button like Chobits.

I keep watching because the fight scenes are awesome, and also tits. Overall it's one of the least original animes I've ever followed, but it has an undeniable allure (tits). I'm 4 episodes in. So far I give it a B-.

I'm reading Romance of the Three Kingdoms. This book is weird, because at times it's dry and boring, and then suddenly the most insane shit in the universe will happen without warning. The whole pig farm incident with Cao Cao and Chen Gong blew my mind. I was actually horrified at the prospect of seeing the old man come home to find out that the guys he was nice enough to shelter MASSACRED HIS ENTIRE GODDAMN FAMILY BY ACCIDENT. But then, OH GOOD, GUESS I WON'T HAVE TO SEE HIS REACTION AFTER ALL.

And it's like it one upped Akagi as the manliest story of all time. Akagi doesn't have a single female character. Three Kingdoms does have female characters, and they exist to be eaten.

I started watching Baccano and it's pretty cool, but it can be kind of annoying how they jump back and forth between three different years. Some things you don't understand the significance of until the story jumps a year forward or a year back to explain some things. The problem is I spend so much time trying to piece the timeline together in my head that sometimes I miss what's happening.

All that said, I like it. There are about a million characters and most of them have gibberish names despite supposedly being American, but they're mainly good.
