There's no fucking way Obama will win FL and NV. There's like to democrats to speak of anywhere here. Even the younger adults are voting for McCain. Honestly, I never even met a democrat in Florida, period.

Post     Google Earth

Does anyone here have a computer powerful enough to properly load up Tokyo or NYC?

Also, the Canadian cities are shockingly developed. Even something like Calgary is very impressive.

Shockingly?

Also, Calgary is very wealthy and has a population of 1 million. Plus it has all of that old Olympic shit.

Try looking at someplace like Winnipeg.

Whenever Canadians tell me they've been to America it's always Florida and they always talk about how stupid and crazy Americans seem.

Most of the places that Canadians visit in the US are pretty disturbing.

Florida, is a good example.

I went to DC, and it was so awful there. It felt like I was in a third world country. But one of those fancier ones where the rich people just treat everyone else like shit.

Christ, Tampa has almost 3 million in it's area and our downtown has unpaved parking lots. Orlando has a smaller downtown than any of the suburbs of Toronto.

And I don't think Europe has figured out the skyscraper yet. I mean, the 6 buildings all of Europe has are hideous.

Yeah, but Tampa the city proper has fewer than 400,000 people. It's technically smaller than Brampton. That makes me think that it's just a lot of sprawl.

Toronto (the city itself) has 10,000 people per square mile versus 3000 for Tampa.

Also, I think there are unpaved parking lots in Toronto.

It's actually 4 million, not including tourists

Turns out that Tampa has like the worst economy for corporations. I believe have zero Fortune 500 companies here. The buildings downtown are 1/3rd capacity.

Yeah, ugh, 13% unemployment rate. What the fuck is wrong with this place?

That's 4 million for the metro area. The city proper is tiny.

Generally a poor way to do things, because it means that the city doesn't have a lot of tax revenue to make the downtown core worth visiting.

Frank, I'm curious if you're familiar with the term "metro area." If not please respond to Theldorrin by stating that 4 million people live in the city of Tampa.

City borders are utterly meaningless. Every county has its own way of allocating taxes that doesn't cheat anyone out of representation. 4 million is 4 million. They gotta go to work SOMEWHERE. I mean, the only other place I've seen so many people with a smaller downtown is shit like in Latin America where they have few google earth support.

Post     Re: Google Earth

Cities have their own government and levy and allocate property taxes.

It's unincorporated cities that don't have that. And regardless the Tampa Bay Area is more than a single county.

I'm guessing you also missed the low population density comment, as well.

No but seriously, this reminds me of the reason why Tampa Bay is in this predicament in the first place. The logic is, the more people are spread out, the less problems congestion causes!

Of course, by 1970, it was already too late. All the good traffic corridors were clogged with walled single-story communities.

The moral is, the more spread out everything is, the longer it takes to get to anywhere. The commute times and traffic will never allow this region to develop properly. Too much wasted fucking space and complete indifference to development is the motto of the region. We struck down our 10th (I'm not kidding) attempt at a high speed rail.
