I think it was more so back in the 60s and 70s. When the Shah exiled Khomeini, he resided in France.

In the language, the most obvious influence is "Merci" is used a lot among people for "thank you" (but pronounced as "mersi").

However, the film was a microscopic look at one particular non-average family. Most Iranians at time were not heavily French-influenced, non-religious, communists like the family in that film. They were not a typical Iranian family, so its not a film that has much to say about actual Iranian life.
