I've probably told this before but in one of my high school classes we were jokingly talking about a class trip and our resident petite, precocious otaku girl suggested, of course, Japan.
A big and burly boy then suggested Alaska, because he was a huge doofus, and the otaku girl said "Ew, Alaska? What is there to eat in Alaska besides, like, raw fish?"
So I seized the opportunity to point out the irony of her statement after her staunch support of visiting Japan, but I was so excited to do so that it was one of those moments where you raise your voice and start laughing because you think you have such a killer, witty point to make, so really the whole damn situation was completely fucked for everybody. _________________ Last edited by God on Fri Apr 05, 33 4:00 am; edited 1 time in total |

I like Asian restaurants because it's a lot easier to find vegan options than with Western food.
Also, we been eating a lot of oatmeal for breakfast lately. I guess we had just not thought about how cheap and easy it is. _________________ Said the Captain PUNisher. |

My comments on regions of food:
Iranian - The different lamb stews are excellent. Some chicken stews are great, but I prefer lamb ones. Kababs, of course, are king.
But Iranian sucks ate appetizers...
Lebanese - ...which the lebanese rock at. THeir main dishes are not that exciting.
Other Arabs - Yemeni has a great rich/chicken combo called Mandis, its absolutely amazing. Egypt has some peasant food which Egyptians always tell me its eaten by lower class people in Egypt called Kushari, but its very tasty.
Indian - Such a vast country with different kinds of food, but my favorite is probably butter chicken. I go with Iranian for my lamb stews and India for my chicken stews. Also, their indo-chinese dishes are tasty.
Turkish - Shawarma/Turkish-kababs are, of course, one of the best foods ever. I like Dubai's version of the shawarmas more than authentic turkish ones.
Chinese - Almost everything I have in Chinese restaurants, I enjoy, unless it is not too sweet. At home, I enjoy making Kung Pao chicken.
Other far-easterns - I like Thai, because usually its spicer, but I cant say I enjoy Korean THAT much. Japanese is horrible.
Italy - All I am aware of, is they have pizza, spagetti, and pasta, and while I enjoy the latter two, it gets boring fast.
British - They have cool breakfast, but otherwise, I cant think of anything else thats worthwhile.
Americans - I like that their whole food culture seems to be based on stuffing as much meat into yourself as possible, without allowing anything else to get in the way, such as spices. So, hamburgers are minced beef with onions cooked, sloppy joes are minced beef with onions and tomatoe sauce, steak is beef with, nothing.
Mexico - I don't like tacos, but I do like their mixed rice dishes.
French - Fuck the french. I don't understand this French cuisine propaganda, i've never had anything in a French restuarant that I enjoyed. |

Poor MADali.
I am getting the impression that you've never had good Italian food.
Also, just to be clear about what I meant when I said "Nothing Middle Eastern is tremendously great": I don't DISlike it, but there's nothing Middle Eastern that I have ever actively craved.
Having said that, one of the best meals I've ever eaten was at a Middle Eastern place, so maybe I need to think more on it. It's very rare that I eat anything from that region of the world.
I can't really say much about Chinese food, because I've had very little in the way of authentic Chinese food. It's not like Panda Express, or really most "Chinese" restaurants I'm gonna find in California, is actually what people eat in China. |

Vietnamese (pho) is king or cheap, quick dinners.
American food is very regional, MADali. Yeah, you have your hotdogs and hamburgers, but you also have your jumbalayas, chowders, bbqs, and chillis which can have very spicy or complex flavors.
Sushi is awesome, but you have know what you like. Some stuff, like tuna, requires the wasabi for the optimal taste. Others, like eel, require nothing but the tasty and sweet eel sauce.
Chinese food is ridiculously diverse, and we don't even get the good stuff in the US unless you know what to order from a kitchen willing to make it. |

I like Rice a lot too, but I can't cook it very well. I should just break down and buy a rice cooker, but I don't really have any room for it.
Madali, have you ever tried Quinoa? |

I can honestly say that Canada is the only place where I didn't like the food.
Korean food isn't really good outside of Korea. I like Japanese; but I get this weird feeling that Japanese food is too expensive to justifiably eat outside of Japan. That and the irony of such clean and healthy eating run by chinks _________________ It is I, Outland |

I had some pretty authentic Chinese dishes at a Montreal dim sum restaurant, and I must say that they were for the most part totally disgusting. There were some exceptions (dumplings are always the best), but man, they like some weird pungent flavors in that country. |

Toronto has really good burritos and Chinese food, but I think they might not be native to the region |

Quinoa is bland on its own, but it's an excellent vehicle for sesame oil, which is King Shit of Oil Mountain. |

I like to think of the foods I used to eat as a child but no longer will, and the foods I didn't eat before but love now.
It amazes me that I used to eat bologna and mayonnaise, for instance.
And I hadn't tried avocados/guacamole until a couple years ago, but now I will eat that shit at every opportunity. _________________
