The american government committs more conspiracies, but less lies than people think; because the US has decent freedom of information laws.

Lying to the public like this would be kinda dumb. The media does it; but that's not the same thing as the government doing it. MADali confuses the dishonesty of the america media with the fact that the US is not a third world nation when it comes to conspiracies.

I can't think of a good reason for the US to lie about this. The timing isn't helpful, for one. There are no scandals to push back and it's not election season. I would be a lot more skeptical if it happened in the months leading up to the 2012 election. As it is now, there's still over a year to fuck up any approval ratings boost this will give him. It would be dumb to just say that bin Laden was dead if you weren't 100% sure that he was because all he'd have to do is make a video to prove it wrong. I guess you could make the argument that bin Laden is still working for the US, but then we'd still have to ice him just because you can't have a supposedly dead person walking around. He might get spotted just by blind luck. He's too high profile and recognizable to leave to chance like that.

If the US discovered that bin Laden was dead for sure, they probably would have saved that info for a rainy day. If you have some kind of reason to suspect it's a set-up that I didn't think of, I don't mind being enlightened. I seriously can't think of a good reason to doubt it short of believing the American government constantly lies for no reason even when it would be stupid to do so.

I believe that Osama has been dead for years. When was the last time Osama made any video release? In the current internet age, Osama could reach millions, if he would routinely communicate to the public.

We're not as far from the elections as you seem to claim. Its only next year. But I think this is less for Obama's re-election, and more for USA.

MADali rightfully understands that american foreign policy is horrid and conspiritorial, that the american press lies, and that americans are idiots.

I don't think he understand when and why the american government lies as much as he thinks he does.

THAT SAID; MADali made a good point suspecting Osama is already dead; that would make it a bit easier to committ a conspiracy. But only a bit; and that's not good enough.

I don't know if this makes America look good. I mean, yeah, everyone is glad Osama is finally dead, but the US just assassinated a dude in another sovereign country and PROBABLY broke international law. And domestically, now everyone is ready for us to get out of Afghanistan and say Mission Accomplished.

I guess that does lead to the possibility that it was a ploy to give us an excuse to leave Afghanistan. I might be willing to buy that.

Well, they can't make the timing TOO obvious.

First of all, people are too conscious now of the "October Surprise" phenomenon and if you stage something then, it really looks staged.

So as a re-election ploy, October 2012 is too late, anytime in 2012 looks suspicious, late 2011 is probably going to be busy with something else they've planned, earlier than 2011 may be too early, and there you go, that brings us to now!

(Notice Obama peppering his speech with various little ways of taking credit for this getting done.)

Also, the timing may be important to something that has yet to happen, like an "Al Qaida retaliation" dirty bomb or whatever which of course we wouldn't know about yet, until it happens (and which of course will be a CIA op).
