I guess I'd like to start off by asking the smart people (fukin' nerds) why nuclear power is considered a viable option, and building the reactors on highly seismically-active regions to boot, when all it takes is a disaster at those nuclear reactors to potentially render the entire planet uninhabitable.

I mean, if the potential result of some particular form of power generation is the complete destruction of the environment and the eradication of humanity, then fuck that form of power.

Alright, FUNimation, let me explain why this doesn't make sense: Number one, the pods landed about five minutes ago, and five minutes is, oh, a a couple of DAYS short of the time it would take to evacuate a city. Number two, there was a whole crowd of people gawking at Nappa as, AS, he was doing his attack, and unless they have some sort of magical teleportation device, or they can run two miles per second, they got zapped along with everything else.

Are you trying to insult the intelligence of every last person watching?

People think radiation is magic so they're irrationally very afraid of it. The idea of being exposed to radiation thus makes people feel much more frightened than having a building fall on them, even though that's a much more likely event.

Meanwhile a massive earthquake has struck Japan, with thousands confirmed dead and tens of thousands missing, and everyone is focused on the emission of radioactive material beyond the legal limit, that may cause a very minor and virtually unnoticeable increase of cancer risk.

And yes, the hoopla they're going through is not an accurate reflection of the danger, but instead the normal safety procedures they go through with respect to any radioactive dangers, because it's so wildly distorted in the public consciousness that we spend an absurd amount of money on it instead of more real and immediate dangers.

Not at all. The precautions for nuclear reactors don't reflect actual risk.

It's exaggerated, like the fear of crashing in a plane versus crashing in an automobile.

You can't look at the precautions and actions taken in order to assess the actual risk from the plant. You instead have to examine the actual number of fatalities and damage from this.

And in the interest of doing it properly, you'd need to compare it to whatever alternative you're suggesting in place of nuclear plants.
