That technique worked well for me with Harry Potter.
And The Chronicles of Narnia.

I think when people talk about how no one reads novels or goes to the library anymore, that that is an annoying expression. _________________ Said the Captain PUNisher. |

You're right in a sense, but it is nonetheless a fact that the number of people who read novels, or go to libraries, has been in steady decline.
If book sales and/or library hours are any indication!
People are probably reading more than ever, but they're reading the Web. |

I generally resent it when people romanticize old technology and claim that it is somehow superior to modern technology (i.e. hipsters writing on typewriters, playing Sega Genesis and listening to vinyl).
But I really DO think that there is an intimate feeling that comes with reading an actual physical book that is diminished when reading on a kindle or iPad. Somehow finishing that last page is less satisfying when there's no back cover to close.
Or maybe I'm just a huge faggot. |

I've found that people make this argument only when they haven't had a lot of experience reading a book on a Kindle or similar device. I can't read on an iPad because of the back-lighting, but it is so convenient to have an entire library on one "book," especially if you travel a lot, or depend on mass transit.
I thought/said the same thing until I got a Kindle, and now I'm a convert. |

My lack of interest in a kindle is primarily economic. I don't expect to pay the same price for less. And digital copies with DRM that I plan to keep are questionable.
Of course I have 20 year old books and 20 year old games that I read and play, so I guess I'm probably not the norm in those cases.
Type writers are very convenient. I'm not sure why anyone would say they're better than a computer except for certain purposes, though.
Are book sales actually decreasing? _________________ @}-,-'- *~*~* Member of the FTU Elegant Tea Party Society *~*~* -'-,-{@ |

Where do people go to steal ebooks? Myself not having this information is primarily the reason why I don't own a Kindle/Nook/whatever. _________________

| Kindle is extremely good. The only disadvantage is that I like having books in my house to make me seem smarter. For example, I just finished "Thus Spoke Zarathustra" (absolutely rubbish) and I struggled through it, so if it was a physical book, I could have at least placed it strategically in my house to show off. |

It is annoying that paperback books cost about $15-$16 US. Haven't yet had to pay more than $9 for a Kindle book that I can read on my Kindle and any computer with the Kindle software installed. Plus there are tons of free classic ebooks.
If I really love the book, then I will buy it in a physical copy as well. |

Yeah, if I had the money I'm sure I'd get a Kindle or something. Being able to read a really thick book and carry it around with you as if it were a paperback novella would be so great.
We have this great used book store in town, and we used to use Paperback Swap a lot, so we've been able to get a good amount of books for not too much money.
I also like having books around the house. When we own a house we really want flour to ceiling bookcases that are overflowing with books, we like that look. _________________ Said the Captain PUNisher. |
