He means that most "science" fiction is basically a slightly more rationalized version of fantasy; ie a sci-fi comic is almost as ridiculous as a fantasy one.

So, again, how can something that's already fantasy be anti-fantasy?

Theldorrin, Star Trek is very pro-mysticism, religion etc.

Humans are hypersensitize spiritual women who dominate the universe. Hence why Kirk is considered a more competent captain than spock.

Or take the Cardassians. They're culture was once more spiritual. It was only after they resorted to rationalism that they became such a despised race.

Rational cultures such as the Borg, dominion, Vulcans or even the Cardassian are portrayed as bitter slaves because they lack human cultivation of mysticism. And then there is Voyager in which the vulcans were portrayed as buncha niggers who lack the fait of the Bjourns

Totally incorrect. Picard has always taken a more detached, anthropological approach to religions and cultural belief systems, except in situations like "Who Watches The Watchers?" where his and the crews' lives were in danger due to the religiosity of the natives.

I can't think of a single time Picard is anti-mystical. His "We shall do no damn thing" line referring to prayer is an editing oversight, not a damnation on religion.

Science Fiction is no longer "future" related material. William Gibson's latest "Bigend" trilogy is written in the present, which is the future. They are one in the same. Though the books rely on modern problems, modern settings, they are all science fiction. Modern science fiction in more of a character study on technology.

OK, I do know that one of the TNG scriptwriters was an atheist. But the way Picard defended the existence of a possibility of a god by saying that the universe to too large and complex is PRECISELY mystical. And he NEVER gave off anything remotely anti-religious unless an actual villain is abusing its power. Religious people would handle the Ardra situation exactly the same!

OK, think of it this way. If Picard was anti-religious he would've not given a fuck about the whole planet and shrugged his shoulders at the whole situation. But the fact HE KNEW that these people THOUGHT Ardra was a god, IRKED Picard in the same way any God-fearing Brit would be.

The moral of the episode was to tell the audience WHAT GOD WASN'T.

I'm pretty sure he was anti-religion in that episode where Wesley violated that law and was going to be put to death, too. I can't say for certain because it's one of those unwatchable early season episodes.

Gene Roddenberry was an atheist. Star Trek is extremely secular until you get to DS9.
