He described a scenario (misery and being addicted to drugs) which arises in every type of family, so yeah, it isn't any argument in and of itself. But you being hysterical and incredulous is very convincing so you should probably stick with that.

Well, there was also that mental meltdown he had in the 12th grade where he walked out of his SATURDAY CHINESE LESSONS and drove to Seattle to spend the week alone. And picked a fight with some BLACK DUDES. He claimed it was stress. I agreed.

One of the other foreign teachers was hired to tutor this Canadian-Chinese girl whose parents (two professors and Canadian citizens) had returned to China for work, and to give her an experience in Chinese culture. She was 7 at the time, and was sitting outside on the sidewalk drawing with chalk. Some old Chinese lady comes over and tells this 7-year-old that her drawing was terrible and that she should never draw again. Then walks away.

The girl's parents had said that they would return to Canada when she was middle school, because there was no fucking way that they would let her be emotionally stunted by insane Chinese education.

In fact, the entire time I was in China, teaching, Chinese teachers wanted to know how they could teach in more Western styles, and most people thought Chinese education was inferior to even the American system because it completely stifled creativity. Western schools are the most prized in China.

I have a bunch of Asian friends, who growing up had insane parents. Almost all rebelled in college, and have since married white people and living far from their parents (though they are almost all doctors). They were all forced to learn musical instruments, and none of them touch them anymore. And one refuses to discuss anything that happened in her life prior to college.
