The security questions in particular are getting so specific that you have to make up mythical answers to some of them, and then specifically remember that answer because it's not actually something real or that you would ever honestly relate to yourself.

It's been secure enough for ME since the beginning.

The excessive security in place now is because of people doing things like clicking phishing links and not being careful with their passwords.

The fact that the ignorant and careless need more security doesn't mean that everything should be a pain in the ass now for the rest of us.

Chris, I'm sure you took that thing directly from me when I was complaining about signing up for my Revenue Canada web account. It was a nightmare how they forced me to pick five password questions from five distinct groups of questions, and how hard it was to find any that could remotely apply. I had to write it all down, because there's no way I'm remembering that shit. And now I realize I don't know where that sheet went.

Chris, your attitudes about online banking are completely retarded and indefensible. Because you are a competent internet user who can avoid maybe 90% of scams (when there is an inconceivable volume of scams happening on the internet, continuously) and because you presumably only use online banking to check your balance and pay bills, you think the amount of verification they ask for is excessive. It's hard to imagine anybody without the mind of a child reaching that conclusion.

No, the verification for a lot of these things is actually pretty bad, ALDP. In a lot of cases they're giving you ways to access your account without utilizing your password.

A password question is how that guy from 4chan accessed Sarah Palin's Yahoo account, for example.

Basically they're insecure by design and shouldn't be legal.

Maybe the systems are clumsy if they generate a bunch of questions you literally can't answer, but having multiple steps to log into an online bank account is perfectly reasonable.

Security questions are really the worst. I have to constantly put unrelated answers to them, because anyone who knows me can probably guess things like, Which school you went to? or which city were you born?

ALDP, I think they should allow you to choose the level of security you desire. With the way sites handle passwords, it is impossible to remember them, so you probably have to either choose something very memorable (risky) or write it down somewhere (risky, both by being found and by losing it)

I dont know how it is in the west, but in the middle east, Ive found out anyone that is not familiar with the internet, usually has their passwords as either their cell phone number or date of birth.
