I wouldn't want to work for Google. Aren't pretty much all of their employees in Silicon Valley? I don't find that area to be the slightest bit appealing, and I'm amazed an industry sprouted over there, considering the location.
There are tons of things wrong with Google. Although in a lot of cases they get things 'less wrong' than other companies.
Their email service, for example, doesn't allow me to send code because it considers is an 'executable'. This is with their Google Apps for domains service, so I really should have control over which attachments I can send and receive.
There are tons of problems with Google App Engine. They rolled out Java support for it, but their design is hugely flawed which means that just calling up a page is going to take baseline of something like 10 seconds every so often.
Google has a ton of privacy issues. They're very fond of sending info on everything you type (as seen in the now defunct Wave, the new Google Instant Search, and of course Chrome).
I also think that Chrome is trash and their emphasis on browser speed is stupid. Actually, I think web applications are stupid in general, so yeah. _________________ @}-,-'- *~*~* Member of the FTU Elegant Tea Party Society *~*~* -'-,-{@ |

Google's search is only OK. They're really rested on their laurels a lot. And in many ways they've made their search worse, by giving precedence to things like Tweets, etc. _________________ @}-,-'- *~*~* Member of the FTU Elegant Tea Party Society *~*~* -'-,-{@ |

I have a lot of positive feelings about Amazon. They're not flawless, but they're pretty good. _________________ @}-,-'- *~*~* Member of the FTU Elegant Tea Party Society *~*~* -'-,-{@ |

| Yahoo is pretty well respected in certain circles. They employ like 2/3 of the famous Web programmers that exist and do lots of industry leading work. |

I don't think that's true about the famous Web programmers. _________________ @}-,-'- *~*~* Member of the FTU Elegant Tea Party Society *~*~* -'-,-{@ |

If you haven't read a book co-authored by Douglas Crockford, Julien Lecomte or Nicolas Zakas then you probably don't write good Javascript.
I could just be dumb but if I further restrict it to JS guys then it's just Yahoo and John Resig. |

Does the average person even need to know anything about web programming anymore, what with the rise of CMS's like WordPress and Joomla!?!!??
It's a situation that leaves me slightly more questioning than excited, not equally both, which I was hopefully able to successfully indicate, in that sentence. |

Well, you'd have to look at people that are responsible for the most important web technologies. So you've got all sorts of people that work on various Apache projects, Netscape and Mosaic guys, certain people involved with important languages, like Perl, PHP, Java and the people who developed CGI. Oh, I forgot about SSL. SSL is very important to the web. _________________ @}-,-'- *~*~* Member of the FTU Elegant Tea Party Society *~*~* -'-,-{@ |
