I think there is still a huge proportion of Americans who believe that Columbus discovered America and proved once and for all that the earth was round. I think Columbus Day is one of the sorts of generic stupid holidays that preschoolers can have classes about, so it's a subject where the false ideas will never necessarily face much scrutiny and will have a chance to take precedence over whatever else the stupid kid will ever learn in real school.

It's funny how angry people get about trivial, harmless misconceptions and ignorances. Meanwhile, a giant flying saucer hovers over an airport, and most of the employees acted with stoic terror and complete denial when questioned by reporters.

I think either people are trained to be tools, or that they willingly choose it because they're more comfortable that way.
