No, just the alternate world that they showed during the last season was purgatory.
I think the general consensus is people who cared more about the characters liked it, and people who cared more about the mythology didn't. I guess I fall into the first category, because the fact that John Locke and Ben Linus are awesome as hell is more important to me than who built some statue.
Also, I'm curious as to whether Theldorrin actually watched the show or if he just did research to find some inconsistencies so he could nitpick them. |

I liked both the mythology and the characters, and while the ending wasn't as awesome as it should have been, I enjoyed it.
Especially when you compare it to the pile of shit ending that they gave Battlestar Galactica. |

How many shows actually have good endings nowadays?
My co-workers and I were trying to figure that out (since they're huge Lost fans and kind of pissed) and I got 3 people saying The Shield's finale kicks ass.
Other shows? I can't think of any. |

I was just reading the Lostpedia and I found this quote by one of the executive producers about the numbers.
Quote: | Damon Lindelof
There are some questions that are very engaging and interesting, and then there are other questions that we have no interest whatsoever in answering. We call it the midi-chlorian debate, because at a certain point, explaining something mystical demystifies it. To try and have a character come and say, "Here is what the numbers mean," actually makes every usage of the numbers up to that point less interesting.
You can actually watch Star Wars now, and when Obi-Wan talks about the Force to Luke for the first time, it loses its luster because the Force has been explained as, sort of, little biological agents that are in your blood stream. So you go, "Oh, I liked Obi-Wan's version a lot better." Which in the case of our show is, "The numbers are bad luck, they keep popping up in Hurley's life, they appear on the island." ... But if you're watching the show for a detailed explanation of what the numbers mean—and I'm not saying you won't see more of them—then you will be disappointed by the end of season six. |
I think this explains a lot of the stuff that happened on the show that we didn't get an answer for. Things like when exactly the statue was made aren't that important, it's enough that we recognize that people have been involved with the Island for a long time.
Although, admitidly things like not explaining Walt's powers or the supply drops can not be explained by this, and are annoying. _________________ Said the Captain PUNisher. |

That's a cop-out answer. There are definitely certain questions that don't need to be explained in detail, but you can't just say, "It's magic, don't worry about it," for everything.
The more I think about it, the dumber the ending of Lost is. There's no fucking point to the sideways universe at all except as a way of distracting from the fact that they never had any answers to the shit going on on the island. You could have ended any TV series in the exact same way and it would mean exactly as much. |

I was hoping that the numbers thing got solved because numbers are generally concrete and they can have specific references / symbolism, so not explaining them is pretty lazy.
Anyways, it pretty much looks like they saw that the show should have ended at Season 3, but needed to milk it for as long as they could so they diverted everyone away from what the ending was going to be. |

I can answer some of these supposedly unanswered questions.
9. Why was Charlie fated to die, exactly? What did Charlie's death accomplish?
Charlie was supposed to die long before he actually did, but because of his flashes Desmond kept saving his life. The universe kept trying to kill Charlie Final Destination style and in the end he accepted his fate. With his death he allowed the freighter people find the island, which was never supposed to happen in the first place.
10. Why did Smokey want the island moved?
Because Ben moving the island took the donkey wheel off its axis which created the loophole that ultimately gave him the opportunity to trick Ben into killing Jacob.
16. Why is Aaron so important?
He's not. The psychic who told Claire that she had to raise Aaron was revealed to be a phony in a Mr. Eko flashback from season 2.
31. Who built the weird Dharma initiative door that leads to a stone wall?
The others built it as a trap, it's revealed in the same fucking episode.
33. What was the sickness that the Dharma initiative was vaccinating people against?
The sickness was made up. The Dharma initiative tricked the people in the hatch into thinking they would get sick if they left the island so they would keep pushing the button, and also as part of their psychological experiments.
36. What were the others having Kate and Sawyer build?
Was it really a runway?
Yes, it was a runway. The runway that Ajira 316 landed on in season 5.
43. Why does Locke need an airplane to leave the island?
Because Locke can't leave the island until he is mortal, and when he's mortal he needs to get off the island the way any other mortal would. He can't swim away. |

I think throughout the whole last season I had the feeling that the sideways universe wasn't important, so maybe I didn't mind when that was confirmed. _________________ Said the Captain PUNisher. |

I watched seasons 1 through 4.
I honestly can't comprehend why someone would like the characters from Lost. Generally they detract from the plot, and detract from everything else. They have basically no rhyme or reason for their behaviour, and pretty much all of them are extremely immoral.
I am at a loss to think of something that has worse characters than Lost. Maybe one of those really bad animes that people make fun of but I've never watched? Because even DBZ characters have more credible motivations. _________________ @}-,-'- *~*~* Member of the FTU Elegant Tea Party Society *~*~* -'-,-{@ |

It's especially annoying how the four worst characters (Locke, Jack, Sawyer and Kate) basically got the most play, too. _________________ @}-,-'- *~*~* Member of the FTU Elegant Tea Party Society *~*~* -'-,-{@ |

I'm really glad that Hurley is the new protector of the island, which I had suspected for awhile, ever since Miles made some off-hand comment about "Hugo being in charge now". I think the problem with the Others and Jacob is that even though they were the good guys, they had a very top down approach. They would never explain their actions, they would just tell you to do something and they expected you to do it out of blind faith. Hurley not going to run things that way, plus he doesn't have a smoke monster to worry about, so I think he is going to run things much better, and that's probably why things seemed to be much better for Ben under Hurley. _________________ Said the Captain PUNisher. |

There is going to be a 15-20 minute "special episode" of Hurley and Ben as island protectors on the Season 6 DVD.
Spin-off? |
