Yeah on New Game+ you can beat Chrono Trigger in 5 minutes. Good times.

Ogre Battle is the only one on that list I've never EMULATED or Virtual Consoled. My nostalgic feelings for it are still fresh and positive.

Ogre Battle is actually pretty terrible. There just is such a low level of interaction and strategy that it actually becomes boring from lack of input.

That being said, it's better to play it on an emulator so you can save states, because you can fuck shit up horribly during a map or get massacred from sending the wrong unit somewhere.

Save states are for pussies! I'm highly disciplined when it comes to playing old games on emulator. It's easy to resist the temptation, because if I give in, I won't have the satisfaction of knowing I genuinely beat the game.

What's your experiences when it comes to replaying old games? I can beat almost every NES and SNES game I couldn't as a kid. Even though my reflexes are slower, since I'm older and smarter I can be patient and figure out enemy patterns and how to manipulate the game to win. I used to struggle to beat Contra even with the 31 lives code, now I can beat it without the code and only dying once. And I beat Contra III: The Alien Wars on hard mode (an unfathomable feat to 10 year old Roy). The hardest goddamn game I've beaten is Ninja Gaiden III. It's basically as hard as the original Ninja Gaiden except, oh wait, there are no more continues my friend!

But those parts in games where I'm thrown into the shit and have no time to use my increased intelligence are depressing because my reflexes are just shot now.

I basically use save state just to quickly resume my games since I often don't have enough time to plow through them in one sitting.

I haven't tried Battletoads yet though, so that may break me.

It's ridiculous that Roy beat Ninja Gaiden 3 without save states.

It's even more ridiculous that he struggled on Contra even with the Konami code!

I can't remember clearly, but it may have been because my brother was stealing all my lives! Also, lots of problems with coordination on the level where you have to jump up the waterfall.

Haha. Killing the other player on the Waterfall level was classic.

Yeah.

You'd burn through all of your Konami Code lives and STILL couldn't beat it?

Save states can fuck you over hard on Ninja Gaiden, pretty much from what I have seen you have to utterly destroy that game and if you get hit once it will ruin your flow.

Yeah, but when you run out of lives/continues, do you just press (not click, because keys can't be clicked) your SAVE STATE key, or do you man up and do the right thing?

We could beat it, it just wasn't a sure thing at first! And I was like 6.

Yes, you must man up and start the game over if you run out of lives. You're allowed to do anything that the original game let you do, like using a save point that actually exists in the game. The original Ninja Gaiden isn't so bad in this way, because you can just keep trying the last level over and over again until you beat it. Yeah, it's a pain in the ass how it sends you all the way back to the beginning of the stage if you die at the final boss, but that's heaven compared to starting the whole GAME over again in Ninja Gaiden III!

God, if I was in a job interview and they asked me what the greatest accomplishment in my life was, I'd have to honestly say beating Ninja Gaiden III. A lot of people probably answer that question with, "graduating high school", but how is that an accomplishment? Almost everybody graduates from high school. It's easy. Who the fuck can beat Ninja Gaiden III?

I could beat Ninja Gaiden III as a child but not as an adult. I don't have the patience for that shit anymore.

I enjoy the challenge of action games/platformers so I don't do it.

Of the course the real thing for me is that I'm fighting against insane level design and not bad game mechanics. I don't like a lot of old school games just because the control is ass (NES Castlevania).

You guys should try Alien Soldier!

Why would you save the state when you're out of lives?

You have to absolutely use save states for Ogre Battle, because the game can glitch and shit and fuck you over.

Chrono Trigger is so fucking unbelievable. The plot is kind of stupid of course, but the music and shit is so incredible. Hearing DETERMINATION or whatever after you ressurect Crono is the best fucking thing of all time. I think I almot started to tear up!

To Far Away Times while you're flying above all the companions you said goodbye to ... ;_;

I got really emotionally caught up in Final Fantasy 6 and Chrono Trigger. They probably altered the course of my life somehow!
