I can pretty much deal with that shit now in terms of stuff like that keeping me up at night, but I don't know how old people deal with the crushing fear of death unless they are devoutly religious or something.

That being said, I don't think I could ever handle religious bullshit so I know that won't give me any comfort.

And the only reason I fear death at all is because it's as huge and traumatic a change as being born.

I mean, regardless of whether or not you believe a part of "you" survives (hint: it does, and I know this), the majority of you - your body, your face, your voice, your relationships, your identity, your way of existing - is going to be gone nonetheless. For all intents and purposes, death IS personal extinction, no matter what.

Of course, you get over THAT by getting over yourself and annihilating your ego completely, along with any pretense that you are separate from everything else or that you as a distinct entity matter in any way whatsoever, but it's not like that's easy, amirite??

How hard is it to get an animal to psychologically overcome what 4 billion years of evolution have hardwired in???
