So this is funny.

No sooner did I finish writing that post then I installed Audacity and found that it wasn't "hearing" audio when I hit record, which led me to believe that there was something wrong with my sound driver, which indeed there was, which led me to try to reinstall sound, and while I was at it some chipset and ethernet drivers.

What ended up happening was I didn't fix what was broken, and broke something else. It didn't fix the sound driver, and now the ethernet doesn't work (and to an extent that is far from easily repairable - I'm getting blue screens aplenty (I THOUGHT BLUE SCREENS WOLD BE A THING OF THE PAST!) every time I try to touch any setting related to the ethernet). I can't find the equivalent drivers of anything for 7.

This, in addition to some problems I was already having with full-screen video.

Fuck Windows 7.

I'm sticking with XP.

You probably should have installed 64 bit Windows where all of the drivers have to be signed.
