Poor person.

IMAX is too far away from my humble town, and my eyes are incapable of perceiving 3D Sad.

I do not have any sort of strong feelings about this movie.

It was just your average bar-raising, revolutionary James Cameron movie (if you know what I mean). It was like, "yeah, this is pretty visually amazing, I've never seen CG this seamless and good before, and wow, I wonder how they did this and that, but who cares I guess."

I appreciated that the story was simple and easy to follow. I can't follow complicated storylines unless they are novels.

I don't understand why this is making as much money as it is though, or the cult growing around it (although I have to admit that the nighttime scenes did indeed stir at deep soul-memories!)

- I guess people at large have gotten to the point in their sci-fi that they don't really care anymore how humans have achieved interstellar travel in any particular story, but I'm still a sucker for at least being thrown a bone in that regard.

- I read a criticism somewhere that this script could have been written by an 8th grader. That's basically true.

- It was gay when the giant black boar-thing was like, "I'm on YOUR side now!!!!" *creature and woman exchange faggy look recognizing their new unlikely, tense alliance* Why the fuck would that happen? It's a goddamn wild animal.

- Everyone who spoke English, or Na'vi, was too good at it. But I very much appreciated that Sam Worthington's character spoke through an interpreter when he was talking about something more complicated.

- The Oil War (Iraq/War on Terror) parallels were kind of painful. Alright, we get it, it's an allegory. You don't have to go to the point of literally using the phrases "fight terror with terror" and even "shock and awe."

- I didn't even know Sigourney Weaver was in this. That's how little I knew about this movie going in! When I saw her, I felt happy inside. Like I could really SETTLE IN and get comfortable now, because Sigourney was with me.

- The military commander guy could not have possibly been more of a caricature.

- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Na%27vi_language. Oh man. "Total speakers: 1." Guarantee that THAT number is going to change!

I just really want to know what it is in our culture, psychologically, that motivates people to eagerly fill their brains with things that cannot possibly be useful to them while violently shunning things that actually could.

I guess people resist knowing/retaining things that are in the same class of whatever they were forced against their will in school to learn because boo hoo, somebody made them do it, but there's no pressure (or responsibility) around having total mastery over every single event that ever happened in the Tolkienverse.

I'm totally guilty of this, by the way.

Whatever it is, it's linked to the thing that causes people to procrastinate for no logical reason (like me, right now).

You're saying its good but overrated in the way Titanic or Terminator2 would be?

About that psychological phenomonon you described; I think its more common than nerds and can't really be called a cultural thing.

The people in this country are too good with money (and too bad with politics, government, philosophy) to say that americans are too abstract.

Sigourney Weaver is really the only thing that draws me to this movie.

I don't think I even like most James Cameron movies, aside from Aliens, of course.

Its a shame you didn't see it in 3D, Chris, because I think that's the real draw. Otherwise, its a lame story, but a well-produced and well-paced one. Does the CGI hold up in 2D?

Avatar is basically White Man Guilt: The Movie.

It only takes white people three months to excel at everything they put their minds to and they always become the leader when going native.

Last Samurai was better.

Were there any black people in this movie?

And it isn't White Guilt, it is: White Man as Messiah of Lesser Culture.

The Chief was Wes Studi! The other three important Na'vi were black.

The Na'vi were a mix of every possible New Age interpretation of tribal bullshit.

How appropriate of them to cast Wes Studi as the chief.

Someone should write a book about how natives were so in touch with nature that they killed all the horses and thereby severely limited their own progress.

And sometimes, when I'm driving through the countryside I'll happen to see a nice big horse dick waving at me as it sprays urine all over the ground.

Always brings a smile to my face! Animals have no shame, they probably don't even realize they're naked.

Jesus Christ, enough of this Avatar depression "news story".

I keep fucking seeing this, everywhere. Including CNN.

Hey media, news flash: some group of Internet faggots somewhere behaves in a comparable manner in response to every single piece of fiction or video game that comes out. This is not news.

Holy shit, a bunch of people on a message board are showing signs of alienation, dissatisfaction, and maladaption to society?
