My dad had a computer with Windows 3.whatever and that is the first computer I learned how to use. We bought a new computer when I got Tamagotchi for Christmas and it took up more space than our hard drive (16 mb).

I guess I would be attacking a straw man if I said that nearly every conception of a vegetarian mentioned in this thread has been a stereotype.

The thing is, I'm not a vegetarian nor do I identify one. Still, I think for one to have a healthy diet, you should only eat meat sparingly (Once or twice a week, tops). Since I've started that, I've been extremely healthy. Rarely getting sick, my depression is better regulated, I've lost weight (Well, I am a heavy drinker so I still have flab) and I just generally feel better. Plus, when I do occaisionally eat meat (Probably two times every month) it's that much tastier. That also is a factor of me eating better meat, and not just shitty burgers and whatever dregs of the slaughterhouse they put in most fast food. I think total vegetarianism is fucking gay, in the sense that you do lose out on amino acids and some forms of protein that aren't available in soy, spinach and nuts and dicks and shit. The thing is though, for my diet, I need to meat occaisionally or else if I skip out on meat for two months and eat a fish, my insides will destroy me and I'll spend a week shitting cacaodemons.

Anyways, a lot of the people who choose not to eat meat constantly in Montreal are very similar to me and what I've said. However, McGill has an Arts program that has a very radical demographic and I'm sure if a real vegetarian would read what I wrote, they'd have a cow (hehe) and accuse me of being a plant-traitor.

While my first computer was probably this, since my dad would program simple games on it in basic and it had a keyboard, I remember that morning in 1984 when my dad brought in our PC Jr. with its amazing 128 KB of memory, 5.25" floppy drive, 16 colors, and 3-voice sound. It cost around $1300, and is less powerful than my digital clock.

The best thing was that it came with King's Quest I, though at four years old, I could barely get Graham over the bridge without falling into the moat. Also, if you started the computer without its boot-up MS-DOS cartridge (there were two front-load cartridge slots instead of a hard drive. We still have the BASIC cartridge lying around my parent's basement somewhere), you could play this neat game with a guy who jumped around on the screen when you pressed different keys.

That was our family computer until 1988 when my dad got a monstrous x286 for an affordable $3000. That thing was twice the size of my present-day desktop tower rig. We upgraded to the 3.5" drive, though we kept a 5.25" to play the old games. I think the harddrive was 32 MB large, and was one of the costlier parts of the computer.

Gosh, I remember going onto the Sierra BBS hint board to download walkthroughs for their adventure games, and printing the whole damn thing out on our dot-matrix computer. It would take fifteen minutes and you'd end up with this 60-page book of hints. The best part would be pealing off the side sections that had the punched holes to fit the printer spool.

And we used Paint Shop to make our banners.

Paint Shop or Print Shop?

I love how I still remember how to load stuff on the C64 (Load "*",8,1 or Load "$",8 and selecting it from the list), and that I still remember that the " was above the two, instead of where it is on an IBM keyboard.

Also, it was priceless using a joystick as a pointing device in GEOs instead of a mouse.

C64 disk drives made such wonderful clunking and stuttering noises when they loaded.

The intel-chipped PCs sounded more like cheesy sci-fi laser noises whirling around and around.

The parts of this thread that aren't about vegetarians and gay are very good.

Deltree was an excellent command and I remember being very disappointed after I found out that it didn't exist in earlier versions than DOS 6 (my parents' computer was running 5 at the time, I think, with the DOS SHELL (worst creation in software history)).

Did you have any other PCjr games, Ace? DID YOU HAVE ZYLL? Or Shamus? Or the shitty football game? God, the PCjr was so, so great. I mean, conceptually it was an abomination, but I derived infinite enjoyment from it.
