As I have heard (but really can't back up) the author of Jaws felt bad afterward since he found out sharks are nothing like he wrote. This was very on topic (unlike my usual posts) to Bitter Gigatron talking about sharks having a bad rap.

Well yeah, the guy was upset about making terrifying monster sharks a part of the collective conscious, but it's not like he made the movie under the impression that sharks ARE relentless unstoppable human-killing machines.
