Well, anyway, I was just thinking about it some more and I'd say there IS a big difference between FTU catchphrases and general Internet shit.

The difference is, WE created everything at FTU. We were THERE for it, and understand where it came from, and all the context is clear to us. FTU stuff is funny and good because it's all us.

And I don't have a problem with anybody's community-specific memes.

The problem is that now there's this all-purpose Internet-wide set of memes. They're like "chain store" memes, as opposed to the "small business" memes of FTU.

Contrast an FTUer with some random faggot getting on 4chan and within a day or so he's mindlessly spouting those stupid memes and it's 100% about him desperately attempting to suck up to and fit in with the group. Just totally surrendering all attempts at expressing himself with individuality or personality. It just never fucking stops either, with those people. EVERY SINGLE THING THEY SAY is *meme* *meme* *meme* *meme*. At least here we pace ourselves, and the majority of the time we're speaking more or less from ourselves.

And when you start running into people in the real world who go around yelling that shit at each other, or talking over movies with it, or in groups using those retarded memes and self-contratulitory sneering when "x" outsider person shows that he isn't IN ON THE JOKE, it's absolutely fucking horrible and you want to see those people get pushed into wood chippers.

Considering that the most frequent catchphrase users are Chris and Gimp Mask it does appear that FTUers doing it are mostly trying to fit in.
