Too much gray matter makes my head work different than yours |

What are some essential topics that I should be studying on my own time because I'm not technically in school right now and I'm fucking sick of being dumb!
Also I'm looking for, more or less, stuff that will make me "hip" smart and not just Theldorrin smart. So let's go! |

Your problem is perfectly described by the Ramones song "Pinhead." |

Is that on their compilation album?
Also the fact that I'm dumb or the fact that my gray matter makes me retarded?

I understand you're in SOAK UP EVERYTHING LIKE A SPONGE mode, but if you're trying not to feel stupid anymore, you might not want to take advice from me. I'm very stupid, and I live in the South. People remind me that I'm stupid all the time. |

i found that ramones although a pioneering establishment in the face of many many bands out there are ultimately too simple for the tastes that their forbearer's sound has created, unlike the beatles who were fundamentally genius. |

Yeah, but so much of popular music is about attitude.
The attitude projected by the Beatles is businessy and professional and capitalistic.
The attitude projected by the Ramones is nihilistic and self-deprecating.
I guess sitting in your room by yourself listening to the Ramones isn't much fun, though. You have to have people to jump around with.
No, fuck it, you're right. The Ramones are totally boring. |

I don't really have anything to offer. I was jut reading this book by Indian-American poet Agha Shahid Ali, and it's called Rooms Are Never Finished.
And it made me think, like, no matter how hard you try to not feel dumb, you'll never be finished. There's infinite information out there, and you'll always be overwhelmed, and there will always be somebody who knows so much more than you in some particular field and just wants to show that off.
Anyway, if you're looking for new music, I could recommend all kinds of bands that you may or may not like, but I'd rather just shill my own music:

(I'm pretty sure I've tried to force this on you already before) |

Yeah.
They were like openly shrude businessmen with guitars.
That's why Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention made that satirical album about them called, "We're Only In It For the Money." That's kind of the energy they projected.
They came to America with suits and identical haircuts like a barbershop quartet or something. Before that, rock n roll was defined by eccentric black musicians and redneck truckers like Elvis. They were like the normal kids of rock music. Like the kids who get A's and go on to get white collar jobs, only their white collar job was music.
I grew up on the Beatles. I love John Lennon's voice still. I'm just trying to point out an element in the overall product that gets overlooked by the starry-eyed fans who say they were just totally brilliant. |

I know there were more layers than that. Like how they were witty little jokesters in the early days and then went on their acid phase.
But the acid phase came after the rest of the world was already doing it. They were jumping on the bandwagon to sell records, case in point. |

Shut the fuck up, Punkasss. Just because you grew up listening to music doesn't mean you know shit-all about it.
The Beatles released Revolver in 1966. Who in music was doing acid before that?
And god, jesus christ, I don't even know where to begin. Everything you said about the Beatles and the Ramones is wrong, pretty much every single thing. Oh, and Frank Zappa too! We're Only in it for the Money is about flower power and fake hippies in San Francisco (He mentions San Francisco and various places there in like half of the songs).
The Beatles were created to make a lot of money, the Who to an even worse extent, but that says nothing about the images they were trying to project. Just because they wore suits doesn't mean they were trying to look like businessmen. |

Why do you pretend to be an authority on any subject whatsoever? Is there something you know a lot about that just hasn't come up here, or are you as ignorant about everything as you are about pop music? If you're too goddamn stupid to open wikipedia and double check basic facts, why not be a noxious insufferable shit in the real world instead of the internet? |
