And it's retarded to think of "some kind of contact somehow" as a meaningful connection to the group (whatever that even is anymore, it seems now to mostly be the chat).

By that logic everyone you went to high school with is still "connected to the group", so long as you still maintain contact with someone you went to high school with, and he to someone else, etc.

They're no longer part of the group if they're no longer regularly communicating with some large part of the group, as opposed to these faggoty little dyads where the only connection to everyone else is of the six-degrees kind. That shit is going to last in some form or another for decades. Some pretty damn dug-in relationships have formed here, so people will be chatting/visiting each other forever. But it doesn't mean they're part of "the group", or that any number of these smaller connections compromise a group.

I've seen this happen with meatspace friend-groups several times over. It takes a while for the group to finally break down as an identifiable "group," but then it hits a tipping point where it's clear that it's over.

Which is obviously (relatively) imminent for this dump, by the way.

This steadily-dwindling pool of posts and posters and emotional involvement can only hold up for so long!
