I can't speak for everywhere, but in New Orleans black people are poor because the education system is deliberately horrible to force them into the food/service industry and support the tourist economy.

Black people in New Orleans are poor because the people that are RUNNING SHIT see no need to reform the Louisiana Public Education System because white people, still flush with old money, can afford to send their kids to private schools, and black people who have no hope of going to college can conveniently work as line cooks-- a job that does not pay well-- in any of the numerous tourist trap restaurants New Orleans has to offer.

White people are APPAULED at the members of this class who turn to a life of crime.

I could be way off base here because I'm no expert on economic history, but "flush with old money"?

I'm pretty sure the Civil War destroyed much of the "old money" in the South, along with most everything else in the South.

It's not like all the white people in the South are still running around spending their slavery money. Like, "Honey, I just checked, all that money we got from those jigaboos working the plantation, it's still there in the checking account, tuition won't be a problem."

The number of people who owned slaves was a tiny minority, and THOSE people got fucked by the war and what happened to the Southern economy during/as a result of it.

Please, please, please just try to come to terms with being white. I know it's hard.

My family owns property in New Orleans.

I mean, come on, somebody's got to be poor for capitalism to function, and who better than the children of slaves? They were thrown out of the plantations with usually no compensation for their work and told to compete in the "free market."

Generations later, and SURPRISE the problem still hasn't fixed itself in the "free-market."

I don't mean to imply that upward expansion is impossible. University of New Orleans student body is something like forty percent white with the rest mostly divided up between black and Asian. There are plenty of black people in New Orleans who aren't locked in this life. Of course, graduating from UNO isn't any kind of guarantee for upward mobility.

And then you look at the lower class, the people forced to work in the service industry, and it's mostly black people.

And the white people that ARE part of that system get the higher paying jobs as waitor and bartenders. Most of the black people are in the back. And virtually none of them ever get promoted to manager. I've seen some fucking borderline retarded white people get promoted to manager over their assertive, competant black counterparts.

So racism is prevalent, but I don't even think that's the biggest issue.

It's capitalism.
