I am curious as to the general opinion of Ace Kendo.

This is a glib inquiry, however, because one thing I can actually commend this board on is an apparent absence of general consensus. For a long time, it would be impossible for me to say this honestly. But recently I've noticed the community appears sufficiently fractured to the point where anybody assuming a general consensus on anything appears lost and confused. This is a good thing.

Still, if there is anything that still seems more or less agreed upon by everybody except (I guess) Mike Payne and Chris Psaros, it's that Ace Kendo is a tool.

So my question is, does anybody else appreciate the consistency of Ace's "not getting it"? Has anybody else considered that many of his posts, on some level, are self-consciously lame, and that unlike Chris, Ace is big enough not to sink his shtick by pointing at it when it reaches unfriendly water?

Can anyone think back and remember when Ace was the first poster to claim some necessity to "leave" DBZU, at a time when his Action Hank persona was immensely popular FOR BEING THE EXACT OPPOSITE of the DBZU aggressive/defensive attitude?

This may be rather egocentric, but I feel like the turning point for Ace's popularity was a flame war he had with me, in which he asked me to build him a model boat instead of wasting my time insulting him. The model boat phrase became his custom title. At first, this was a cheeky, fraternal jab, and it was ambiguous whether we were laughing "with" him or "at" him. In a glaring example of the fluid context of opinions, the model boat joke became more aggressive and decidedly negative over time. It started as a slap on the shoulder, just ribbin' you sort of thing, really more a dewy-eyed appreciation for Ace's passivity and good nature. It eventually became a prime example of Ace's retardation.

Since then most of his posts have involved coming into the middle of a running joke and adding to it in a way that subtly suggests he doesn't really get why anybody thinks the joke is funny and that he is simply failing at fitting in.

Am I the only that sees a subtle, possibly intentional beauty in the consistency of Ace's lameness? I feel like he is shunned for being a constant thorn in the side of our groupthink mentality. He will join the ongoing joke, but he will mess it up in a way that nobody can explain but "everybody" can perceive.

My question TO Ace Kendo WOULD have been "is this intentional?" But, part of what makes the Ace phenomenon interesting is that he never even slightly hints at his level of awareness. So I invite him not to answer the question unless he feels compelled to do so.

One question that I would like to pose in a straightforward manner (if I am indeed capable of such a thing) involves riding off into the sunset. Even in 2000, it was pretty ridiculous to believe any of us could really go anywhere in the world where our Internet access would be so restricted as to destroy the possibility of regular communication. If I remember correctly, you left to teach English in China. Was China really so bad in the year 2000 that an imported school teacher had no job-provided Internet access? How much of your dramatic exit was mandated by circumstance, and how much of it was secretly voluntary?

I feel that a straightforward answer to the second question can get me closer to the probably unanswerable first question.

I would also like to reiterate my question to everybody who is not Ace Kendo. What is your honest reaction to him? Apathy? Frustration and anger?

Does everybody actually love Ace Kendo, and I'm way out of the loop?

I want to know.

Ace Kendo is a very nice and likeable guy but he's one of those people who constantly makes jokes that might have been funny 3 years ago. I think there was actually a South Park about Kyle being unable to keep up with the current fads or something.

It's interesting to compare Servbot and Ace since they're both nice guys who are constitutionally unable to make good posts, and even have a pretty hard time just making OK posts. I guess their STANDING and DEVELOPMENT as posters (or lack thereof) are probably the result of when they joined FTU.

Anyways Punkasss, Ace defends himself often enough. He's not as bad as Chris in that regard, but he still does it.

Calvin tries to compensate for a lack of wit or value with unbridled inoffensiveness, and he believes that any problems people have with that stem from their inability to process his cheeriness and not from the fact that they're not retarded and can therefore see how shitty he actually is.

Ace does this too but he may be less aware of it, or at least less smug and in your face about it.
