Are you saying that when there is a draft, more universal acceptance is required to take military action?

Because that kind of makes sense, for the same reason that inernal corruption is far more prevalent in private schools than government-funded public schools. When everybody is paying taxes to keep this school running, they don't let them fuck around. When anybody can be drafted to fight in a war, they better not be fucking around.

But then, the draft was going on during the Vietnam War, and that was an extremely unpopular war. So, I'm finding a lack of historical precedent for your claim.

And, is that a joke about opening a Disneyland in the Middle East? Would this be accomplished through friendly trade or military force???

Yes, Peter's point is the broader benefit. It would also greatly mitigate people slapping a $3 magnetic yellow ribbon on their truck and sneering at all the unpatriotic liberals.

But the military point is mostly a consequence of Vietnam, and not negated by it.

We don't have anymore reservists to pull off the shelf. Even after a record amount of people decided to volunteer for it. Afgan is a serious fucking threat. No really, VERY SERIOUS. If we would simply walk away from it, or continue to basically send Canadians to take meth there, the middle east is fucked.

Maxing out rationing and deb/t helped stimulated e/conomy of course.

Problem is people think producing guns is somehow inherently more sane than producing butter. What was really going on is we had a good credit line and an excuse to ration.

That's why a lot of american problems just seemed to vanish because of WW2, we were maxing out the credit line.

Problem is since then people think "duh soldiers magically produce more than farms even when they are doing no civilian work whatsoever".

I'm not sure why this is, but be sure not to point out such fallacies to any conservative that'll turn in to a nasty argument
