| Last night I was saying this was bad in the chat and somebody told me it's probably just not my kind of movie. While that's definately true to a degree I'm pretty certain I thought the other Indiana Jones movies were at least alright. This one I was just waiting for it to end because I'd invested too much time into it to just turn it off. Maybe I had decided what I thought of the movie too early and was determined to hate it by the end but it really seemed incomprehensible. |

What's mainly bad about this is the gay ass CG, and it just reminds you of how nothing visual about movies, in the sense of stunts or monsters or melting faces being convincing looking, can possibly be impressive or thrilling anymore.
Shia swinging with the monkeys was the worst, the monkeys somehow knowing to attack the bad guys but not the good guys (and that they attacked at all) was gay, the guy who spoke in riddles was gay and unnecessary, the way everything was carefully and overly explained was gay, the aliens were (I GUESS) cool and everyone who complains about aliens being involved is an idiot (but that's now a well-worn point of discussion).
The movie was also extremely by-the-numbers, like "just another episode" of something, but I guess it's not fair to complain about that since that's kind of the whole point.
The South Park episode was silly. This wasn't a "rape." No matter how bad overzealous Gen Xers want this movie to be, it really just wasn't that bad. Overall it was just meh.
None of that even matters though. It doesn't matter if the movie featured this-or-that gay thing. Sorry if you're underwhelmed, but the time for Indiana Jones movies has simply passed, no matter how gay-free one might be made. There are plenty of places the character could go, but nowhere exciting or inspired (basically by definition). Making more Indiana Jones movies is like Atari making new games for the 2600, or me writing Garlic Jr. episode comparisons. Go ahead I guess, but the world got what it needed from that stuff already and it doesn't need to be revisited. It's just going to feel like pandering to nostalgia no matter what.
Movies have moved on. Not like movies are better now (fucking hell no), but they've moved on. No contemporary sequel that we sit there watching in our fat, old bodies will ever make us feel like Raiders of the Lost Ark or the dinner scene in Temple of Doom did when we saw them as children. It's not the 80s anymore. Go to bed, gramps. |
