You know, maybe Big Fagot should lend us his room of spirit and time (hyperbolic time chamber)
Sorta like how Mr. Popo should have lent it to future Trunks instead of letting the apocalypse come |

It takes several months to accelerate the particles to their fastest speeds, so nothing is going to happen until late autumn.
Do you think they will discover the Higgs boson? |

It's a big deal because it's the first new record-breaking collider in 25 years, and also since the Superconducting Super Collider (which would have been much more powerful) project was axed by the US Congress. The last few decades have been pretty shitty for physics, with a lot of theoretical work getting done in string theory (string theory is so fucking incredibly awful) and nothing else.
It offers us new chances to prove or disprove predictions of the Standard Model, which is the modern, fully fleshed out version of Quantum Mechanics. The reason physics has been shitty is that the Standard Model is so excruciatingly correct that there aren't enough problems to work on. Hopefully the LHC will yield some extremely shocking results or else it's another long period of slow grinding while the next generation of potential geniuses grows old trying to nail down the half-life of tau mesons more precisely.
Remind me to write a couple thousand words on how insanely meta-bad string theory is. It is a humongous black mark on physics. |

Sorry, what I meant to say was "It will find the Higgs boson. It will recreate the conditions of the Big Bang. It is 27km in circumference and some say it will destroy the planet."
