				| All your argument is wrong.

  	  | Quote: | | Even though in most jobs I perform at a high level, when tipping is involved, I can make upwards of 14-15$ a day and it certainly makes the demanding work a lot more enjoyable. |

Once tipping is not mandatory, employees will demand higher pay, because they wont get paid enough. All you are doing is diverting the money. Customer pays tips to servers is not as good as customer paying to company, who in turn pays its employees.

  	  | Quote: | | Most customers enjoy tipping because it gives them a quality control on their service or experience. |

Sure, they can continue tipping, but it wont be mandatory, and shitheads like you won't say stuff like:

  	  | Quote: | | Rarely do I get no tips, or a terrible tip, but it does happen and people who do that are shitbags. |

I dont want to go to a resturanat and be thought a shitbag just because I dont want to tip. Include it in the billing, and I'll be more than happy to pay it, but I certainly don't want to be obliged to pay the server directly.

  	  | Quote: | | The thing is, tipping also keeps cost down for companies that deal with a lot of products that are at margin. |

How moronic are you guys to not understand that for a customer paying 15% tip or paying 15% Service Charge is exactly the same way, except for the latter you just pay it on the bill. Imagine if you had to pay 10-20% for the server depending on the service, 10-20% to the cook depending on how good the food tastes, and so on, but hey, the price of the food will be cheaper!

				| Why is MADali going so wild about paying money to the company instead of paying it to the server? Do you not realize that if wages are going up and there's a service fee added to the bill, that you are going to be paying prices that are much higher than the nominal rate? | |

				| Because a customer's contract agreement should be with the company, not with each employee. Because what happens is that as a customer I might go in, and be called shitbag, because I'm not paying what is not mentioned in any contract.
And Magic Juan, lets see if you and Mautty understand this:

Food costs 10 dollar. So as a customer, I would pay,
 10 + 15% = 11.5

This 1.5 dollar is given to the server.

Or, ideally, the company can just put the menu as:
 10 + 15% Service Charge = 11.5

The customer still pays the same exact amount, but now he is paying as per the bill. How hard is this concept to understand?

				| As much as I'd hate to take sides MADali is the only one trying to make a rational argument while you people are making smarmy douchey remarks like"duh wages are in the price"
Take nations with master service industry (Japan, Germany) and they don't do what the US does. Neither does anyone else.

Im not saying the US system is bad (well actually it is), but all mautty and MJ are doing is insisting nothing else works, which is flat out fucking wrong

I think the origins of the US system was a reluctance to pay taxes, Im talking about like way in the 19th century cowboy frontier and the only way to avoid a fucking service tax was to tip. Also, they were probably smarter than we are when they did it.

				| If you think about it, there are many, many situations in which there is absolutely nothing stopping you from just eating your meal, getting up, and leaving without paying anything, or just leaving $2 on the table, or whatever.
Sometimes I'm very tempted to do that!
