With all due respect, I think MPP's greatness may be inflated by nostalgia. I mean, there were some pretty nice WITTICISMS from time to time, but a lot of it was like:

randomnewguy: hey, this place is kewl ^^

hunter thompson: series of eight paragraph violent essays about what a low life randomnewguy is

everybody esle: hunter thomspson is right and always great.

And while that seems powerful in retrospect, it was all taken very seriously, and sometimes people got in fights among themselves that WEREN'T rapid-fire exchanges of clever insults but ponderings as to WHAT THE PHILOLOSPHY OF MPP SHOULD BE, like hubris or somebody being like, "SO WHAT ARE WE A BUNCH OF POSERS WHO ACT MEAN TO EACHOTHER ON THE FORUM AND THEN KISS EACHOTHER'S ASSES ON AIM??????" And all that stuff was very, very gay. But this post is already too long not to be gay itself, so I don't care anymore.

Perhaps it was never MPP's members which failed to cause the Internet to resonate with awe and fear, but rather the forum's inherent structure which could never be changed as easily as the whims of its more popular contributors. It seems as though the shadows of its posters continue to haunt the hallowed halls of FTU, perhaps hoping for some form of respite from its constant barrage of so-called "newbie-torture" and crushed dreams of virtual popularity.
