Has any peacetime event even compared to to sheer scope and insanity of this moment? Who would have thought that in 1893 something of that magnitude even existed?
Why isn't this 8-bit's CT? |

So I just read a book about the 1893 World's Fair and I would like to retroactively agree with Frank regarding the first post in this thread.
The largest gathering of humanity since the mustering of the army of Xerxes! A temporary building that was basically a larger replica of the US Capitol! A SHIT LOAD OF OTHER TEMPORARY BUILDINGS THAT WERE DRAMATICALLY LARGER, including the largest enclosure ever built up to that point! The fucking Ferris Wheel!!!
Now I know what you're saying, oooh, a Ferris Wheel, I've seen those at every amusement park in America. But no. You've seen A Ferris Wheel. That is nothing compared to THE Ferris Wheel, which was taller than the Statue of Liberty and had cars the size of train cars that held sixty people EACH and also contained fucking lunch counters.
And that doesn't even mention all the other shit that got created for this fair, like zippers and Cracker Jack and the Pledge of Allegiance and that "duh duh duh-duh-duh, duh-duh duh-duh duh-duh duh" song that they play in every cheesy old movie when a guy is playing the flute to make a snake rise out of a basket.
Also, to tie things back to a current thread, at the same time and place the awesomely insane H.H. Holmes was gassing and eviscerating women in his god damn murder castle a few blocks from the fairgrounds.
The moral of this post is that Devil in the White City is a very good book. |

| I REALLY don't like how he breaks kayfabe in the middle and BECOMES DWAYNE, but you cannot fucking help but choke up at that, especially if you haven't watched wrestling in like 8 years. |

If you have, though, it's pretty unexciting.
I'm more enthusiastic over The Rock having a Twitter account now. _________________ Last edited by God on Fri Apr 05, 33 4:00 am; edited 1 time in total |
