historically it was 10,000 vs. 300. the movie 300 is a comic pretty much and it looks great but historically the spartans were outnumbered but had great favor in terrain so it is very possible

The mongols were probably the single most important factor in the decline of the middle east, though this really doesnt seem to be pointed out.

Tamerlane was completely undefeated after becoming a ruler, even when put to the test against good generals like Bayazid. He would have torched europe easily, but wasnt next to it so he didnt.
