Anyways, I am currently reading Thucydides History of the Peloponnesian War, and I tried reading a People's History of the United States, but the smarmy socialism of it overwhelmed me.

I'm reading Areopagitica (John Milton vs. licensing) and My Antonia (supposedly one of the great American novels) for class right now. You would probably be better off looking up Areopagitica on Wikipedia since Milton uses roughly a million examples to make his point.

My Antonia is actually not that bad, at least in terms of prose. The writing has a very natural flow to it and it reads very quickly. I haven't gotten that far in, but it's not awful which is really all I'm looking for at this point.

The problem is that a lot of people shit their dicks over Chuck Pahlaniuk for reasons that escape me. It's like, he writes something half-assed about people doing strange shit and people take it as some sort of liturgical sermon.

I want to argue Hemingway is so fucking manly his words burn Homosexuals like holy water.

But... I was reading one of his shorter stories a year ago, or so. It's tells of a man and a woman going out on a canoe ride for a picnic by a lake. The guy breaks up with her later at night by a campfire, and he tells her to get in the canoe and paddle off. A few minutes later by the fire another guy approaches the one guy, and he asks along the lines of "is she gone, yet". The main character tells him to shut up like he was struggling with the decision.
