ALthough it's a little easy to get the gist of; this is a good series. Right now, I am at the point where pompey received a warm welcome in Egypt.

I was watching it in Starbucks; at first I was afraid that the explicit scenes would offend people looking over my shoulder; but after a while I learned to stop being such a pussy about it.

I remember back when I once publicly watched gay Vegeta porn in Thailand to overcome public shyness.

Rome was fucking amazing. Marc Anthony is one of the coolest television characters ever, and I really can't say the gay vegeta porn incident surprises me at all

I tried streaming Rome on netflix; but it was only on DVD.

Netflix is so fucking useless. It's only for people who enjoy watching old and overrated movies.

I mean gee netflix would be great if they had, say, properly subbed DBZ or whatever, but it can't even keep up with fucking hulu minus.

Yes, of the people I have been aware that used netflix, they had a abhorrent taste in movies, which the end result seemingly.was always having to turn down a viewing of that Dawn of the Dead with Ving Rhames

Properly subbed DBZ would be terrific, as I only have seen a few episodes after the Freeza Saga, and the most immense troll since the dawn of man grew grating, the VA was no longer funny after the initial horrid mutant child staggered out of the cellar grunting and straining like it shit itself most terribly

I would like to point out that I was waiting for Chris to really have something neat to say when Funimation grabbed full control, but no, he just said something about how the voices seemed worse

You have the nerve to call that impassioned manifesto "just saying something about how the voices seemed worse"??

For Kami's sake.

The good news is that Hulu is still continuously expanding their DBZ section, and may even have the cell saga subbed by now. Of course, commercials remind one how annoying DBZ really is.

DB Kai was a great idea, but the original DBZ had too good of a soundtrack to let go of.

Anyway, DBZ in its many forms is annoying. And hulu understand itself and what it's actually good for; so it's only a matter of time before they get Rome on.

The problem with Hulu is that it's almost TOO good of an idea; people wouldn't appreciate it to the extent they appreciate stupid shit like Netflix (though advertisers and shit do a lot to make up for that)

I was totally unmedicated at the time, so there is a distinct possibility I read the first two sentences, picked a random sentence to remember it by, and am obstinate in my assessment

For some reason, I admire the Romans for conquering greedy pussy bitch civilization like the Carthaginians and Greeks. By the time of Caesar, they were randomly defeating manly barbarians and shit.

It's so odd how different ancient Romans are from Italians; Romans until the 5th century made everyone look like contemptible pussies. Modern day Greeks and Italians ARE the contemptible pussies.

In fact, I demand a Roman republic forum, with several mods such as Gimp Mask and myself. That will make me and Gimp Mask patricians and optimates but still a civil forum

I do admire Caligula...

I watched a very interesting program in which a number of historians hypothesized that Caligula was far from insane, and that he indeed had a method to his madness. For example,as what was generally accepted as perhaps the most prominent example of his madness was gathering his top military tacticians along with a large number of soldiers, reaching the vast expanse of oceany barrier that protected England, and attacking the sea in a psychotic haze.

Yeah, or maybe as he was a shrewd sociopath with a 'different' sense of humor, who knew how much the army despised him, so he had them march to a beach and humiliate them by demanding an assault on a water treatment facility of sorts, taking great pleasure in the shame and rage his generals would experience and revel in the hushed mockery that would be awaiting the fellas when they returned, and to top things off probably threw a fucking orgy of carnal pleasures and bruteal slayings of man and beast to the mob

Makes sense to me, anyway

Tiberius, and to a much lesser extent Nero, and to a much much lesser extent Caligula weren't as crazy as accused of. But Caligula was the most psycho of the three.

The real jerks came after Aurelius. Commodus, Diocletian Constantine and Theodossia weren't the biggest assholes but they still seemed to bring about Roman decline.

An underrated psycho is Caracalla.

According to the historian Herodian, in 216, Caracalla tricked the Parthians (Persians) into believing that he was sincere in his marriage and peace proposal, but then had the bride and guests masssacred after the wedding celebrations. The thereafter ongoing conflict and skirmishes became known as the Parthian war of Caracalla.

Yes. Tiberius would have young children swim around his naked body and nibble on him as basked in awesome. His minnows he referred to them as. He also would have boys prance around the large tracts of landsurrounding his hidden mountainfortress dressed up as fictional wood creatures (I suspect his rape island was a powerful influence on Michael Jackson's rape land creation). That said, he left Rome's treasury with an immense amount of monies, which he gathered through actual political thingys (sack some shitty villages or something).

Caligula promptly blew through it in virtually no time, naturally.

I have finally agreed with the the thesis that the Roman Empire was misruled the entire time. It seems that being powerful and glorius and being a misruled turd aren't mutually exclusive.

ROME:

Rome is the best series I have scene thus far. It is about a couple of Roman centurions named Lucius Vorenus and Titus Pollo and how (like Forrest Gump) they are along for a culturally and historically significant ride in the decline of the Roman republic. It starts off at the battle of Alesia, during which Caesar battled the Gaelic leader Vercingetorix.

The series is well acted, forgivably historical in the first season (well except for the whole Atia cat-fight thing), and very well produced. What I like about this series, is that even many of the historical deviations are plausible. Who says things happened the way some crappy ancient source says it did?

But, the show is not without it's weaknesses. For one thing, I was more impressed with the first season than the second; in which history was further ignored or deviated from to continue HBO-ish sub-plots.

Secondly, being historical, this show probably needs to be watched in order and not just randomly jumped in to.

Though obviously dramatized with a ton of poetic licensing (particularly during the second season), this is probably the closest we'll get to seeing the Romans on screen.

I give it a 10 out of 10.

I do believe that one can truly enjoy an episode of Rome if they had never seen it before and watched a random episode. That said, yes, to truly appreciate it (and to apply proper etiquette to a program that demands respect) one must not end up beguiled into thinking there is not a fairly compelling plot due to exceptional levels of realistic violence and rampant sexually explicit scenes.

Better than Oz (yeah I said it)

I guess gallic is a more apropriate term for french celts. I can't believe I said Gaelic!

I guess I should watch, and review, more roman related series. Maybe some day I'll get to I, Claudius.
