I was using my computer with no problem at all the other day and now when I restart it, I get a NTLDR is missing error message and my computer doesn't start up. I've read that I need to make a boot disk to repair the boot up file, but how did the boot file get corrupted in the first place? Or did my somewhat newish Seagate harddrive just die over night? plz guys, any help wuld be appreciated

There are lots of possible causes of this and your drive could be fine.

Actually, your problem may be as simple as a misconfigured bios.

I didn't do any thing to the BIOS, but could some sort of power outage reset my bios and fucked it up? I tried to mess around in the bios (I didn't save anything) but it doesn't seem like any thing is different.

I can't play Unreal...

I think I remember that NTLDR problem from the Marines.

This especially happened when people used to have A: drives but that is old

Check your boot sequence and remove any media try and boot from the HD or even the CD room.

I used to have boot problems pretty much every week because of a loose IDE cable. I assume that's not your problem here.

It could also be a virus, or a corrupted file, or several other possible things. You should make sure you don't have a virus and not worry about it unless it turns into a pattern.

How do I create a book disk? Is this something I can just do by searching the internet? I'm finally getting internet installed into my apartment tomorrow so I was thinking of doing it then, but I'm hoping it's easy. I'm going to double check that my hard drive cables are secure because I don't know if my BIOS is recognizing my primary drive.

Yes. I'm not really sure how to create one nowadays. I guess you'll need a blank CD or a flash drive.

There should be instructions on the web.

This sort of thing is not really a big deal if you have two computers, because you can do trial and error shit more easily.
