You DO realize that there's virtually no difference anymore between a TV and a monitor, right?

In fact, the only difference is that TVs have tuner hardware and channel-changing, so if you just want a big monitor, get a big TV and you have everything a monitor would do and more for less money.

I wouldn't actually get cable anyway, because the picture quality is basically worse than in the 80s, nowadays. Square pixels + overly aggressive compression leads to total crap.

Oh yeah, that last one I was just throwing out there. One of my friends has the tv/monitor setup and it isn't that much of an inconvenience unless you're trying to entertain a bunch if people.

Don't underestimate people's desire to be the first one to see things so they can talk about it/spoil it for other people.

Plus, downloading things takes not-insignificant effort, whereas simply watching things requires you to do nothing but press a button at a specific time.

I guess if you're not poor scum like me it's probably not that big a deal!

I use my HDTV as a TV/computer monitor and it is glorious. I also only have cable internet, but because it has to send a cable signal to the modem, I can also plug into the back of the TV and basically get free cable tv.

Chris, have you heard about Google?

I download things and then use Tversity to watch them on my giant HDTV via my PS3.

But yeah, I still have cable because of live sporting events, and also just the ability to waste time watching TruTV or the Food Network or whatever.
