Is the whole game really that boring?

Back when my modded Xbox was working I played it and got to the Megaton town before I got bored and played something else. People keep going on about how it's the best thing ever though so I figured maybe I didn't get far enough and it suddenly gets amazing at some point. I also thought that maybe I wasn't playing the game RIGHT, cause trying to be the good guy and talking to everyone in a nice manner is torture

If the whole game is like that then fuck it, at least I hardly paid anything for it

The central plotline of following your father involves clearing out identical subway stations and buildings and city blocks in sequence. The level design is the same basically every time you enter a building, which makes me wonder why they bothered setting the game in a real-life city if they give so little a shit what anything looks like.

The real DC Metro is nothing but a series of similar looking subway stations! They were all designed at the same time and tourists are always getting confused by where they are.

Anyway, while many places look similar (because of the drab post-apocalyptic color scheme), Fallout 3 is open-ended and you don't have to do anything in any order (other than the main story, which you can complete at your own speed), so it isn't systematic. You can play as good or bad and you can kill and rob anyone you want, (though people will stop chasing you after you let a few days to a week pass). Hell, in the end you can help the antagonists.

There are office buildings, caves, sewers, subways, factories, schools, hospitals, hotels, military bases, satellite relays, various national monuments, museums, a supermarket, and the massive open world to explore.

Fuck, they cut out 2/3rds of the originally planned world because they thought it had gotten too big and repetitive, but there is something calming and fun about just walking for twenty minutes through a wasteland blasting away the random radioscoprion or ambushing a gang of goons at their diner hideout.

I think I have spent more time playing fallout 3 than any other game. Charon and dog Meat are like family at this point. Fawks too I guesss.

I'm happy for anybody who can enjoy playing Fallout 3 but I think I would get more satisfaction dying in agony of actual radiation poisoning
