The Time Mammel was a tiny rodent in ancient times, but over the centuries has become a giant monster that can devour most any animal whole. It has been known to manipulate time while hunting. While humans have attempted to use the Time Mammel to power a time machine, the Time Mammel would usually kill its would-be captors. In any case, they cannot travel backward in time because that's impossible and stupid. Time paradoxes and whatnot.

Time Mammels, as a society, collectively decided that they would grant the gift of time to the universe. The living beings of the universe were ungrateful for this give, however, so the Time Mammels deemed backward time travel impossible as punishment. Therefore, only travel into the future is allowed. If a being attempts to change time and create a paradox, the Time Mammels will erase him from time completely. No one will remember his existence.

Time Mammels are able to see the entire sequence of time all at once and have total knowledge of everything that has happened, is happening and will happen. They have pledged to keep this knowledge secret. It is for this reason that it is impossible to catch a Time Mammel unaware.
