Hollywood, only a handful of times, has shown aliens as real and malevolent. It's usually one or the other.

It's why aliens rarely come out as creepy in movies. They're either retarded bugs to be blown up by marines or somehow have immediately been accepted and assimilated by a larger human force.

It's why Americans can't see aliens much more than a plot device or a figment of hopeful imagination.

Even movies like Solaris (remake) had to censor out all references to aliens and instead tied it all into spirituality or something.
