Post     Re: Annoying Expressions

This is the closest I'll ever come to contributing to Annoying Expressions, but I did notice that I referred to something (not an animal or a fictional character) last year as my spirit animal, which I thought was a genuinely original and humorous turn of phrase (which was, in retrospect, also fucking racist), and then a week later that shit started appearing everywhere.

The only reason I care, though, is not because I want to police clichés like Chris Psaros and the rest of you scumbags, I just didn't want the particular people who were going to see the comment to think I was simply copying the trend and being unoriginal, because their opinion of my sense of humor mattered to me.

That is either a (MASTERFUL) troll or I need to go weep for this bizarro universe neo-FTU some more.

Please Mike Payne, please come back. I fell in love with you because you took me AWAY from this shit...

Is Mike Payne an even higher authority on racism than Bill Cosby?

In response to Jason's CULTURAL APPROPRIATION/"that's racist!" spirit animal thing, I just saw the greatest video ever on that topic. On Upworthy! I don't know how the fuck I allowed myself to end up on Upworthy again, but there it was.

This guy gets it!

I hate when people just add the word MAN to stuff. Like man cave or man card. So fucking stupid. A real man wouldn't feel the need to prefix words that way.

I'm having a hard time being up to date with all the acronyms on the internet. I remember when it was basically lol, asl, and brb. But I now I constantly have to google things, just to see what urbandictionary says what it means. Just now has to google SHTF.

"Easily one of my favorite ___".

"One of my favorite" is a vague expression, because there's not even a suggestion of how many favorites you have, and that's fine. Sometimes you just need to indicate that something is good and move on. But modifying it with "easily" is weird. It's multiplying an unspecified quantity. "Dude, My Chemical Romance is easily one of my favorite bands. They're so, so, SO FUCKING a thing I have a level of affection toward."

Parking tickets are easily one of my favorite ways to spend money. EASILY.

Also, the whole "something WILL happen" thing. "The United States WILL defeat ISIS, end of story." "If you touch my beef jerky, I WILL fuck you up." It has exactly the same meaning without the alpha affectation.
