The United States has the largest known concentration of oil shale in the world, according to the Bureau of Land Management and holds an estimated 800 gigabarrels of recoverable oil, enough to meet U.S. demand for oil at current levels for 110 years. Oil shale is developable given high enough oil prices, and the technology for converting oil shale to oil has been known since the middle ages.

I think most of our oil is also in protected reserves. and to be quite honest, as much as I hate my state, you fuckers can spend six dollars a litre for petrol before you can drill off my coast.

I actually wouldn't mind gas being ridiculously expensive, if all the faggot oil companies weren't posting record profits each quarter.

One thing I've come to realize about oil and peak oil and all that shit, is that nobody really has any clue at all what the reality is.

You've got a bunch of "experts" in different camps that believe the exact opposite of other camps.

It's just another of the many things (most things, especially things on a large scale) where everyone just pundits about it but doesn't actually know shit, because it's impossible to know.

Theldorrin, the price of oil truly doesn't reflect the expense of it of being mined, refined, primed for epa standards and profit tax knickknacks. I agree with you there. People just take it for granted the governments trying to get you to move the economy along, and we still complain about small things like the insane price.
