The best time to change your OS is approx three to four years after it has been released. By that time there will have been enough patches & programs will work well with it.

I don't know, I guess when I go to "upgrade" my operating system, I'm just a sucker for expecting my computer to at least be AS functional as it was before. Throwing in an actual advantage or two might help as well.

When it came to upgrading from 98 to XP, the reasons were clear. There were dozens of obvious, clear PRACTICAL improvements and advantages for upgrading. Networking, startup and operation speed, resource use, the GUI, system stability, hardware installation, everything was made better and easier.

If Vista has made anything better or easier, I'm not seeing it. Some of us don't give a shit about "security." We just want our computers to work.

You're conflating the meaning of the word upgrade. It's an upgrade in the sense that it has more sophisticated technology and some features lacking in XP (HD TV video support and such).

You're thinking of it as an upgrade from Firefox 1.0 to 1.5. When it's more like an upgrade from IE 5 to Firefox.

For it to be as functional, you have to install the appropriate software. If the software you need doesn't exist yet, then don't upgrade to Vista.

Anyway, security is important because now that everyone is on the Internet, your poor security has an impact on the other people that are also on the Internet.

Vista is seriously not worth the "upgrade". It won't be for a while. Chances are, your hardware is too slow and you'll never use anything out of Vista.

You can play around if you have an extra partition and download the torrent. But don't sacrafice anything.
