I made it clear in that farewell post that the years and years of conditioning is too strong for me to do something different here. The only way out is not to post at all.

As for the thing Jason is talking about, I don't mean that the way other people mean it, when they say that.

It's not like, "wha?? Huh huh, look what happened! What a surprise! You never know what's gonna happen! But hey, I guess life's about the journey, right?!?!!!"

This wasn't a "change in attitude" or an "I never thought of myself as THAT type!!!!"

It's more along the lines of a person suddenly discovering that he is of the opposite sexual orientation.

Actually, that's not LIKE what it was, it's literally what it was, if you consider asexual (henceforth: "a", as in "bi") an orientation.

(And before you say "Janie", that was the equivalent of the way gay dudes who haven't figured out that they're gay yet try to date girls, and in so doing realize that they are indeed gay.)

Me being totally disinterested in, and in fact incapable of, an intimate relationship was at the basis of my identity. It was one of the core beliefs I had about myself. I wasn't even actively OPPOSED to it (like I am to procreating), it's just that the idea of PARTNERING UP with a woman was only very slightly less inconceivable to me than the idea of doing so with a man.

My situation is similar to a guy I know who was gay, then turned hetero for a particularly SPECIAL LADY, married her, divorced her many years later, and then went back to being gay. He's fundamentally homo, he just went hetero because the situation/particular person called for it. I'm a, and doing the same.

And THAT'S why getting married is secretly funny to me. It's not that I'm doing it ironically, it's more like the way a gay guy must feel when he's marrying a beard. It's like, "haha! None of these people know the truth! *sly, a face*"

- Because I'm going to be with her forever anyway, so whatever. And if I'm wrong, who cares?
- Because I have no wealth or property to lose if our marriage WERE to end in divorce. (Not that this is an argument in favor, it's just often cited as a reason not to marry so I'm pointing it out.)
- Because other people (family, etc.) will take the relationship more seriously.
- Because the terms "girlfriend" and "boyfriend" are annoying expressions. (Actually, so is fucking "fiancee" (HMMYESSS, MY FIANCEEEEE), and if there's any argument for speeding up the actual wedding, it's that.)
- Because I want to have the experience of a wedding, since I never thought it's an experience I would have.

I'm sorry, I'm not at all seeing an argument for what distinguishes you from anyone who insisted in adolescence that they would stay single and then failed to do so.

You're saying you're different because you're asexual, despite the fact that you're in a (presumably) sexual relationship, as if being asexual means you're also incapable of developing an emotional fidelity to someone that would lead to marriage.

You're also saying that you're different because you're ambivalent about the ceremony and are doing it for the woman's gratification, as if the typical groom shows equal enthusiasm for the marriage as his bride?

I don't agree with MADali that you're doing it ironically, but you're also saying that you want to experience the wedding for the sake of novelty. Either he's right or I am.

You should determine which person is more important, and then refer to them as the host and the other as the parasite.

So Chris would be the parasite in this case, and Lexy would be the host.
