I've heard the PS3 version has those problems, you should probably just take it back to the store where you got it and get a new copy.

Vinny update your video card drivers

If you have the ffdshow codec installed set its merit to 'do not use'

See if the .bik movie files are causing it to crash by renaming the Intro.bik file temporarily

I got a pc and ps3 but I got a 7950gt 512mb card so I think it is starting to get outdated

My computer can run Oblivion fantastically but Fallout 3 runs like shit. I know there will be patches and mods though so i will keep playing.

It'd be cool to play through oblivion using a machine gun that never runs out of ammo and you're the only person in the world who has one.

I played Oblivion and hated it and I love Fallout 3.

There's more shit to do per square foot in this game. I've wandered into an area and a bunch of snipers started shooting at me and then like four goons charged me. That's much better than walking around for 30 minutes and then killing a wolf.

Except when you're playing and you get to Megaton for the first time and it just so fucking happens that there's a Raider outside and even though you kill him the guard robot has now turned against you so you fucking die and have to start over from leaving Vault 101.

I bought the game, because it seems like it'd be pretty good on a console.

After you complete it the first time the game creates a save where you can edit skills, stats, appearance and gender, so you're really only forced to do it the first time you play through the game.
