Don't get me wrong, Punkasss, Lil' Wayne is one of my favorite rappers. Da Drought 3 is hands down the best mixtape I've ever heard. That said, Carter III is lyrically the worst of the Carter trilogy (although production-wise it's probably the best because it doesn't have Mannie Fresh all over it). Great job defending the album, though, considering you haven't even heard most of it yet. You even posted lyrics from the old version of "A Milli" which aren't even on the album (twice!). Here's the new lyrics:

"Man I hate a shy bitch. Don't you hate a shy bitch? Yeah I ate a shy bitch. She ain't shy no more she changed her name to my bitch. Yeah nigga that's my bitch, so when she asks for the money when you're through don't be surprised, beetch. And it ain't tricking if you got it. But you're like a bitch with no ass, you ain't got shit."

But whatever. I don't even know how I should construct my argument because I'm gonna be talking about songs you haven't even heard, but I guess I'll just lay it all out there:

First off, Lil' Wayne fucked himself over when he built up insane hype for C3 by releasing a fuckload of mixtapes. The Leak, the Drought series, so much stellar material that just owns his actual album. The songs are filled with lines Wayne's already spit on other songs, and a lot of his new lines are more corny than I've come to expect from him ("I'm rare like Mr. Clean with hair").

The hooks on this album are his worst yet, from the white guy yelling "Phone home! Weezy!" on "Phone Home" to Bobby Valentino making a dumb siren noise with his mouth on "Mrs. Officer", the hooks are just embarrassing. Come to think of it, Weezy's hooks have always been shit. That's why his best stuff is mixtape freestyles. And that's also one reason why Jay-Z is better than him. Listen to a Jigga song like "Allure" and compare it's hook to any Weezy song. The dude just says more.

And that brings me to my next point, which is that the lyrical content on C3 significantly lacks substance when compared with his earlier work. On his older shit his raps had at least scattered narratives, and there was some semblance of a message to some of his stuff. There's no doubt that "I Miss My Dawgs" was about Turk and BG and all them leaving Cash Money. "Receipt" was a great love song. Etc. But look at these lyrics and try and tell me if Lil' Wayne is saying anything at all:

"Get you 3-4 get you, like the number after 1 I'ma get me 2. It's Weezy F you now you gonna have a baby. My money don't fold nor bends, Mercedes maybach, grey black, and I got a 4-4 and a K like 8-stacks. Fuck your city, your town. I state facts. Take that. No, better yet like Diddy take that. Wait rats, I hate rats, I clean them out like Ajax. Got paper like a fax machine, asa-neen. Damn, I mean asinine (maybe assanon?). Dapper Don, after thine there will be non. Damn, I mean there will be none. I will be one, of the greatest things you ever felt you ever seen or heard Carter-D Harvard y'all scared."

That's more than half his verse and all it really equates to is "I've got a lot of money and guns". Sure that's all a lot of hip-hop equates to, but it's usually put together more cleverly than this. In fact, Fabolous and Juelz Santana outrhyme Weezy on this very song.

The only exceptions are "Tie My Hands" which is about Katrina and "Dr. Carter" which has Wayne playing doctor and diagnosing rappers' maladies with their flows rhymes and swag. They're both good songs. But it just makes me wish Lil' Wayne would address real issues more often instead of saying shit like "I am an alien like Gonzales".

In addition, the album is full of auto-tuned vocal garbage, which I guess we can expect more of in the near future when Wayne and T-Pain's "supergroup" drops their album.

"A Milli" is sick, "Let the Beat Build", "3 Peat", "Dr. Carter" and "Tie My Hands" are pretty good, and "Mr. Carter" is the best song on the album. Can you guess who the featured MC on the song is?

Everything else on the album, lyrically, is shit.

Basically it's pretty evident when you listen to Tha Carter III that Lil' Wayne has destroyed his brain with codeine cough syrup and that he will never top Jay-Z. It's a shame because I really thought C3 was gonna be some revolutionary hip-hop shit that would evolve the game like Illmatic, The Chronic or Ready To Die, but it turned out to just be a mediocre album with no lasting effect on the game whatsoever.

Lil Wayne isn't about lyrical themes. He's about puns and charismatic delivery. You have to admit, even the lyrics that you posted, while he's not saying anything, as far pure creativity with language goes, it's clever and constructed, but relaxed. Almost drunk. It's innovative.

His delivery is different from anybody else. You'll never hear about a rapper copying JayZ's deivery because there's nothing special about it.

And you can't say he doesn't have good hooks. Have you ever heard early Cashmoney stuff???
