Indie rock is in a disgusting and boring state of pussification and there are only a handful of recent indie acts who I can stomach. Why does everyone have to sing like a pussy? Why is that the style of vocals which every magazine and blog is telling me that I'm supposed to enjoy?

There are a couple of pussy sounding vocals that are really popular right now. The kind where it sounds like the guy is practically whispering, like Sufjan Stevens, and the kind where the guy is obviously singing in a higher register than he should be, like Passion Pit. Then there are the indie bands who have singers who are just very bad and have no idea how to sing but you're supposed to appreciate their badness as art, like Ponytail. Fuck indie rock!

I can't find a very good demonstration video, unfortunately.

Chest voice is lower, and you feel it in your chest, and head voice is higher and you feel it in your head.
