A long long time ago, in a poor village in a poor country, a baby was born. His skin was smooth and dark. Everyone hated the baby because they believed his mother was an adulterer. The baby did not understand such things.

He grew into a toddler. He had a friend. One day his friend was crying. He asked what was wrong. His friend said that his father had broken his leg and there was no one to plow his family’s fields. The friend was very hungry. He was very sad for his friend. He entreated the angels for help, that they might send someone strong enough to plow his friend’s fields. An angel appeared to him and told him that no one but himself could do what he asked. The angel said he would have to sacrifice an eyelash. The toddler agreed. The angel took one eyelash, and the toddler became strong and plowed the fields. Almost everyone still hated him.

He grew into a boy. The town schoolteacher became too sick to teach the children. There was no one to give his friends knowledge. He was very sad for them. He entreated the angels for help, that they might send someone with enough knowledge to teach his friends. An angel appeared to him and told him that no one but himself could do what he asked. The angel said he would have to sacrifice the tip of his little finger. The boy agreed. The angel took the tip of his little finger, and the boy became knowledgeable and taught his friends. Most people still hated him.

He grew into an adolescent. His country was at war with another nation. The men of his town went to battle. Many of his friends died. He was very sad for them. He entreated the angels for help, that they might send someone brave enough to win the battle. An angel appeared to him and told him that no one but himself could do what he asked. The angel said he would have to sacrifice his hand. The adolescent agreed. The angel took his hand, and the adolescent became brave and won the battle. Many people still hated him.

He grew into a young man. Soldiers came from the nation’s capital and made him a general for his bravery. His country was still at war. He led his armies to victory, but many of his men died. He was very sad for them. He entreated the angels for help, that they might send someone wise enough to guide his men without leading them to their deaths. An angel appeared to him and told him that no one but himself could do what he asked. The angel said he would have to sacrifice his eyes. The young man agreed. The angel took his eyes, and the young man became wise and conquered the enemy nation without losing a single soldier. Some people still hated him.

He grew into an older man. He was a cunning and great general, but the world was still wracked with war. Many people in other countries died. He was very sad for them. He entreated the angels for help, that they might send someone powerful enough to bring peace to the world. An angel appeared to him and told him that no one but himself could do what he asked. The angel said he would have to sacrifice his tongue. The man agreed. The angel took his tongue, and the man became powerful and conquered the world as an empire for his country. The world found peace. A few people still hated him.

He grew into an old man. He was weak with age. Now a terrible dragon threatened his empire. The dragon could not be defeated by any weapon and ruined many of his people’s villages. He was very sad for them. He entreated the angels for help, that they might send something terrible enough to kill the dragon. An angel appeared to him and told him that no one but himself could do what he asked. The angel said he would have to sacrifice his humanity. The old man agreed. The angel took his humanity, and the old man became a monster and killed the dragon. The people lived without fear again. Now everyone hated him.

The monster retreated to the mountains to live. One day he came back to his village. Everyone was dead from sickness. He was very sad for them. He entreated the angels for help, that they might send something that could undo the ruination of his village. An angel appeared to him and told him that no one but himself could do what he asked. The angel said that he would have to sacrifice his feelings. The monster agreed. The angel took his feelings, and the monster becomes an idea that exists outside of time and undoes the sickness that killed its village. Everyone still hated the monster, but wondered where he had gone.

The idea, being everywhere and understanding everything, senses suffering wherever there is life. The cause is the illusion of ego. Beings choose not to see the unity between themselves and their enemies, that they are the same entity. The idea reasons that this is not for the best. It entreats the angels for help, that they might send something omnipotent to remove this illusion. An angel appears to it and tells it that no one but itself can do what it asks. The idea asks how to become omnipotent and end the illusion of ego. The angel says that it has to sacrifice its free will. Agreement is expressed by the idea. The angel takes its free will, and omnipotence is conferred on the idea.

The idea exists in all places and has a hand in all things. The laws derived by men of science are inseparably suffused with its nature. However, the idea cannot choose to end the illusion of ego. Though no one can see the idea, many people curse their fate, and so they curse the idea.

The idea is the cause of the baby, and the baby was the cause of the idea. The man from the poor village in the poor country was also the hand of fate. Despite the great transformation, one thing remains true: in all its forms, the being in question is, and always has been, both a cause and effect of the Universe. This is true of all men.

The idea flows through time. The idea causes a change in the past, and affects the future; the idea causes a change in the future and affects the past. The idea causes all events, and all events cause the idea. That is its nature.
